Hi all,

Recently I've been working on a prototype for a game idea called Adrift.

Adrift sets the player on a space ship on the brink of failure and the player just has to survive. The ship contains a portal device which allows travel to nearby planets in order to collect supplies and search for technology etc.

I've been building this prototype with the intention of just exploring the mechanisms required to facilitate this kind of gameplay and to see if various ideas even work. But it's all for nothing unless I get real feedback from people on the direction I'm going.

What I'm looking for

I'm basically looking for feedback on the sort of gameplay that exists at the moment and thoughts on how it will scale. The original idea was that the ship would be massive (600m long, 300m wide, 2-4 decks) and thus much more time consuming to explore, repair and survive in. The current ship doesn't give a good indication of that sort of thing and I know it, just use your imaginations a little Smiley

For more information on what I have in mind and thoughts behind what I've done so far, I recommend checking out the small blog I've been keeping: https://adrift.jasegam.es/. It goes into detail on some topics and explains the rationale behind others.

Requirements

* Windows XP or newer
* .NET 4.0

Download

Note: That server is located in Australia, so it might be quicker to grab it from IndieDB for many people: http://www.indiedb.com/games/adrift-prototype/downloads/adrift-prototype-5

Hi! Smiley

i tested the game on Windows XP and it worked and i like the gameplay Smiley

the only problem is that my computer screen has a smaller resolution, so the game doesn't fit on my screen, and sometimes you can see through walls thats all Smiley

it seems that this game is going to be epic!  Grin

Hi, thanks for trying it out Smiley

I'm glad it works on XP, I'll update my post to reflect that.

If you ran the game from "PlayAdrift.exe" it shows you a small launcher first and you can choose the resolution you want to run at. Alternatively you can start the game by using the command line "adriftgame.exe -r:1280,720" to start the game in 1280x720, or you can use any resolution you want.

Thankyou for the feedback

Just released a new prototype; http://adrift.jasegam.es/prototypes/AdriftPrototype.zip

Primary additions for this version are an inventory system, resource gathering on planets and fabrication of items on the ship using those gathered resources.

More info: http://adrift.jasegam.es/prototype-6-inventory-fabrication-gathering

If anyone gives it a go I'd be interested to see if you find it fun, or parts of the conceptual gameplay you think should be better, etc.
