Otherworld is an exploration procedural action-adventure game where the player explores, and uncovers a vast alien world and conspiracy. The player must learn to survive in a hostile alien world, and at the same time, find a way to go home. Otherworld will have action-adventure mechanics, such as crafting, combat, questing, and dungeon-crawling. The eventual goal of the player is to leave Otherworld by reaching a high level of technology, enough so to construct a powerful and efficient rocket.



Key Features:
  • Explore a procedurally generated world of alien biomes, dungeons, cities, villages, bandit camps, temples and ruins.
  • Fight in real-time combat against the native predators of Otherworld and other hostile enemies.
  • Craft and progress through tiers of technology, from wood and stone, to robotics, rocketry and bio-engineering.
  • Interact with the native race of Otherworld, the Cai and discover their religions, cultures, history, factions, and quests. Befriend the natives, hire companions, or make foes.
  • Discover the hidden mysteries of the Foreigners, and their strange influence and presence on Otherworld.

We are a team of four people: A Miami-native illustrator, a Swiss artist and animator, a German programmer, and a Dutch composer.

Actual Gameplay Footage

Latest recording: We got harvesting and interactions implemented, the player can harvest from trees and plants, and pick up their respective drops. You might also notice cute blue creatures; that's our first implemented creature for this biome. Please forgive the poor quality; despite recording in high quality, and uploading the video several times, they still appear blurry.




Over the past 2 weeks of March 7-21, our team has worked on procedural generation, especially for the first biome. We're very happy with the results.




What our generation and game looked liked before March 7th! We got a lot of progress done in 2 weeks alone.

The art for the mockups looks absolutely incredible ! Very interested in seeing where this goes. especially like the image with the strange language glyphs followed by what appears to be an expression in a speech bubble !

These mock-ups are looking great. Reminds me a lot of what Capy is doing with Below. The logo is very similar.

Hey guys! new concepts and a video!

We've gotten collision optimized between sectors! The optimization reduces the amount of checks required to figure out if something collides or not. The optimization fixed several issues, namely, walking into the collisions of trees while crossing sectors. Also, the game used to freeze when there were large quantities of characters on the screen, but now it runs smoothly at 60fps constantly.




We're currently working on the main mechanics now: harvesting, crafting, and combat. Of course, there are other mechanics, but we feel these three will compose much of the player's actions and interactions. We want to make it fun, efficient, and smooth. We're gaining ground on the harvesting mechanics; so far, we can harvest a tree, which drops an item that can be picked up.

Besides that, concept art! Help us choose which designs you like. We're thinking of expanding each biome to have a lot of variation in tree and plant designs, and we need your input.

Yeah I've noticed that. Thankfully it's just a concept and not the final thing. The ruins players will be exploring will definitely need more time spent on visual dev.
