Looks like Something Awful is having a compo. The theme is "You can't ____". Can be used in gameplay or story. Check it out.

BoingBoing are running a "Games inspired by [chip tune] music" competition.

Only open to U.S. residents over 18 (which is a shame.)  Whatever format you like.  Games should be based around a particular chip tune, probably one that's licensed in such a way that you're able to embed it in the game.

Shortlist selected by BoingBoing, final winner determined by public vote.

5th July deadline.

GameMakerGames List Competition
Clicky Clicky
Idea is to select two or more themes from a rather lengthy list and make a game around them. There's a $50 cash prize and all sorts of rad themes to choose from, such as christianity and advertainment. Check it out dudes.

Hi all,

Game Jolt's fifth official contest will be staring us in the face come July 1 and will finish up on the midnight of July 8, 2010 EST.

The theme will be announced on July 1st but you can try to guess from the contest poster:

More info here:

http://gamejolt.com/community/forums/topics/game-jolt-official-5th-contest-pending-theme/574/

Best regards

JF

EDIT:

Hi all,

Just received an email from GameJolt:

"The theme is Indie Game Demake! Why is it that there are more than enough remakes to go around, but hardly any demakes? Something has got to be done about this! Forget about adding features and improving game-play, let's kick things down a notch, remove those extra embellishments, and warp our favourite indie games back to a time before their very existence!

We've got one week to choose our favourite indie games and demake them; make the versions that should have been released before the real games."

More info here.

Apparently the White House and the makers of Sesame Street are going to hold a game dev contest. The details are here:

http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20100916005742/en

and

http://www.joanganzcooneycenter.org/Initiatives-31.html

It doesn't seem very well organized and brings back bad memories of the "Save the Earth" contest from the first post. However some of you might find it worth while, especially if you qualify for the youth prize.

It's only added to when things happen.

So if nothing's happening that isn't big enough to be seen ahead of time (IGF, Ludum Dare, etc) then there won't be posts.

Game Institute currently has a 6 week Halloween-themed competition going on, but it's just for fun (aka. no real world prize.)  You don't have to be a student to enter, but I think you have to at least register on the site to access the forums.  It's listed in the Game Institute Student Challenges forums if you are interested.
