Jared C, that lady-face is really nice. The eye is a bit big imo but it's still really nice.

Could someone show me how to color things properly? How to give things volume, how to shade things, specifically skin (how light affects it, and the physical motions you make to paint it, idk).

Hi John I found this tutorial while looking at this girl's work recently.  She breaks it down into very easy steps, first rendering the figure in gray tones, and then creating a layer on top of that of straight color that blends with the tones underneath.

I think she primarily works in vectors too, and has some more tutorials on some of the techniques she uses.  Applying paper textures so that it doesn't resemble clip art so much.  Which I think can be applied to most flat color renderings.

That metal and fabric are pretty cool mutton. The sword seems at a weird angle tho, and I would totally get rid of that huge eye.
