[img]http://Critique, plzthx.

This is among my first "fine art" portraits without a reference, so I sort of made up all the light sources and reflective behaviors. Other than continued rendering, how can I make this more better?

First off, this is really great. First thing I noticed that was off was the nose is a bit less defined than the rest of the face.

Thanks, means a lot. Yeah, I always have trouble with noses, since one errant stroke can make it look totally bizarre.

@kinnas, did you paint that in grayscale first?

this is a picture and in many ways it is exactly like an image. Also click makes it bigger!

You wouldn't happen to have this in 1600x900, would you?

Blambo: Nothing to critique really other than keep going! And don't work on a white background, it's harder to judge values and colour that way.

For those interested here's a larger version of that glowy dark bar - crop, size, rotate etc as necessary! Also notice my embarrassingly sloppy brushwork in great detail.

Much like this next one it was just wingin' it for warmup.

The bar one took about 90 minutes I guess, the last one was like 30-40? It's fast cause I'm not going for anything nor am I thinking about anything, whatever comes out is the topic of the image. If only work stuff was this fast to do : (

Can't say how much I love that style Carrion, the pen complements your detail as well.

EDIT: whoops, just realised when I looked closer its pencil. wellp, still good details tho  Grin

Super awesome, in my opinion it would look better with more contrast in the lines to bring out the picture a bit more, I think thats what made me mistake the other one for pen. The darker lines seem to portray the dark demeanor of the character for me.

Just pencil.

To beat a dead horse, I love your style, carrion. The detail is not necessarily bound to being functional or realistic and adds to the awesomeness.
