I liked the format of the last challenge so I'm stealing that. Here's a summary of each song with a bit of personal feedback.
pgilhttps://soundcloud.com/pgil-1/hey-nowI liked this a lot because it was pretty much the first thing I wanted to hear. Sweet little funk riffs with a nice floaty bridge. I think it could have been a bit more effective if the drums were more frantic and inspired.
eernstromhttps://soundcloud.com/eernstrom5/romance-after-darkThis piece is beautiful. Soulful and haunting. And kudos to that solo violin. I would have liked a broader... climax.
audiospritehttps://soundcloud.com/audiosprite/fuckWinner for best song title. Winner for best live bari sax. Winner for most wah pedal.
The live instruments and midi instruments stood out from each other a fair bit. Which is fine but the rhythm section could have been more
punchy.
Miffycakerhttps://soundcloud.com/miffycaker/girl-look-under-ur-bedhttps://soundcloud.com/miffycaker/gurl-look-under-ur-bedVery unique sound palette here. A nice variety of memorable melodies one top of an easy to follow structure. I love the mid range bass.
Really well mixed. This is my personal favourite.
Leo Jhttp://leoj.bandcamp.com/track/monkey-loveAt first I thought it was just a cute idea but I love how it ramps up into chaos at the end. In fact, I think you could have kept going and escalated it even more. Maybe it sounds cheesy but part of me wanted to hear screaming monkeys by the end of it.
mscottweberhttps://soundcloud.com/broken-sounds/night-timeI'm a sucker for good drums. The rhythm in this piece was spot on for me and (something I admire in a lot of musicians) the melodic instruments were conservative and their intention was clear. Groovy.
dawid w. mikahttps://soundcloud.com/dawidwmika/my-heart-will-go-offI don't wanna meet the person that wants to get freaky to this... no maybe I do. Not at all what I was expecting but very much enjoyed it. The theme is clear in the unconventional approach and appreciate the thought put into it. Very cool soundscape.
I will say I'm disappointed I didn't hear any banjos... oh well. There's always next challenge!
Good luck, everyone!
