Help us find the voice…

April 16th, 2014
Another step in the development of Woolfe has been taken. A big part of our game is story, told by Red Riding Hood herself… so it’s quite important to find the right voice for the part.

Casting

While searching the net for voice actors we could use for the part, we discovered the website www.GameVoices.co.uk . The site is not so easy to navigate, so we just sent John an email. He informed us that we could request an audition for the part we needed, and so we did. After setting up a briefing with lot’s of spoilers, and then stripping all the spoilers, all we had to do was wait for reactions…

We did not have to wait for long… within the hour the first auditions rolled in and they kept on rolling for as long as the call was open (one week). In total more than 80 female voice actors applied and auditioned for the part. We were totally overwhelmed by the amount of applications.

The first cut

We needed to narrow down the list. 83 was just too much. We’re no voice casting specialists, so then we made up our own way of rating. We gave points to:

Mental voice age (does she sound smart enough?)
Physical voice age (does she sound young enough for the part?)
Engaging / interesting (could you listen to her for a whole game?)
Storytelling (does she get the feeling and timing right?)
Je ne sais quoi (does she have that special crazy thing you can’t put your finger on?)
We were able to narrow down the list from 83 to 8 voices we think could be right for the part.

We need you help!

Now we’re asking for your opinion. Since we have no idea what you in USA, Canada, Australia and the rest of the world think would be the best voice, we could really use your help. (Don’t worry, we will have voices for other languages too… but first let’s choose this English one).

Here is an overview of our 8 favorite voices with the 8 runner-ups in random order to give you some extra options to choose from.

Please use the video comments to tell us which voices you like best and why!

Thanks!!!
