However, it was then that the ghost came, and being at the bottom of a pit w/ no immediate escape, you can guess how pissed I was. I was at level 3, after all, the farthest I'd gotten up to that point.
Tip: Every single snake pit has a mattock hidden beneath it, simple plant a bomb at the center most tile and hop off to the side. You can use the mattock that is blown from the ground to dig your way out. Yeah, I did that, but it was the first time I'd found a mattock, so I had no idea what to do with it in the few seconds I had before the ghost raped me.

I have yet to survive a visit to a shop. It asks me to push "B2" to purchase. Unfortunately, I have no idea which button B2 is on my gamepad. Why not say "push Action" to purchase or "Jump" or whatever that is? Why is the shop keeper so touchy? Seriously, I get killed every time. One other suggestion on gamepad... why does button setup ask me about 10 different things? I have a four button gamepad... It's not actually "Action", or "jump". On keyboard, it's the P button. I presume there's another button entirely that you need to press. Or configure, and then press.

I was wondering. Where are the save data files stored at for Spelunky? My OS is vista 64-bit so I imagine they got sent away to god knows where. I reformat often so I was hoping I could keep my save data when I do plan to reformat.
registry. Let me know if you need something more specific. It's a series of numbers or somesuch under gamemaker. here, I dug it up: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Game Maker\Scores\834524] "Rank1"="[a whole buncha letters]" etc etc

Hey Derek, just making sure you read my post about the boss bug a few pages back - basically, the boss wasn't breaking any tiles when it was crashing down. it happened to me a couple of times already, so I hope you can nail that bug.
It won't slam down hard unless you pass under it.

Haha... something fun that I just learned: in the title screen room, the title itself is solid and if you can manage to get up there you can walk around on it!

*Respect* In the jungle stages, those man eating plants, they eat you if you touch them or jump on them. Not sure if thats a bug or not, to me it seems like you can jump on anything in the game and kill it...

Well there is an animation for them eating you so I would hope it's not a bug that they eat you.

you should be able to jump on the plants if you have spike boots.
I don't know about you, but last time I bit into something spiky, it didn't end so well.

Don't know if this is already fixed Derek, but jumping on the sides of the idol boulders can also trigger the short fall bug.

I think that's supposed to be a "feature" of the teleporter, given that it's a Roguelike.
Really? The thing is that it's impossible to tell how many tiles it will move you, and I've used it for 3-4 levels non-stop without dying -- it doesn't seem to ever kill you unless you get to the edges of the screen. Which is what made me think the one time it killed me in mid-screen was a bug.. has anyone else been killed like that?

BUG [Spoiler] I got thrown by a yeti in World 3 and I landed right next to the edge. After that, I couldn't move at all. The only thing I could still do is use the hotkeys (a,s,f) but I just lay there. http://i43.tinypic.com/2888s4m.png

I've tested the range of the teleporter independently within the game and found that it will, on average, teleport you 4, 5, 6 or 7 tiles in a straight line through the x axis. If this tile is inhabited by rock or a grey block, it will teleport you on top of that, with a maximum Y range of ~5 or 6 tiles. Here is where the unfortunate part kicks in. If the space that it chooses to place you is STILL filled with solid rock or a grey block then you will most certainly die. I guess that's just how the game works currently. I mean, think about it. What if you tried to teleport straight into a wall (not the level borders) that was 8 tiles high and still ended in rock? Would it make sense that your corpse would end up on the very tallest point just because the item is programmed to attempt to let you survive via a mercy feature of placing you on top of solid ground whenever possible? Not really. The functionality and risk/reward factor of the teleporter as of the latest version is quite near to a sense of "good" balance as possible without going into unreasonable territory. EDIT: Added additional testing, crazy stuff.
