wanna say i love this game a lot, but there is this one bug which keeps happening. it doesnt happeb if i dont click outside the window or press x to skip stuff on the intro screens, but otherwise i get this:
mock my stats if you wish.
[glitch]

I'm gonna assume you're using nVidia drivers after 181.22? If you are, roll them back to 181.22, at least. They've been having problems with antialiasing and transparent textures which they refuse to acknowledge/fix.

This is going to seem like a really silly question, but how do you view prices and buy things in stores?  I can't figure it out, as simply picking the item up gets me killed.

That shouldn't happen. O_o

Just picking up an item should result in the price being listed, and the shopkeeper walking towards you. You can then set it back down or press space to purchase it; the only case in which the shopkeeper will go berserk on you in this case is if you exit the store holding an item that you haven't paid for.

Once I tried to gently put down an item I couldn't afford... I think the shopkeeper was too close or something so I dropped it on his toes, and promptly got a shotgun blast to the face.

Yeah, that works... I don't know why he was shooting me earlier, maybe I was chucking the item at him accidentally or something.  Thanks for the help!

I screwed up a CoG run before getting the Hedjet, and decided to destroy some altars and get the ball and chain since I had never had it before, and OH MAN is this thing glitchy! And, strangely, overall more helpful than it is harmful!

For instance, I found if you're holding it and you throw it while jumping, it acts as a sort of parachute, stopping your velocity while falling a couple times each second! Weird. O_o

Also, a neat (although perhaps useless until a good use of it is found) feature is that you can use it to hang beneath any edge. Like say you walk off a single tile thin strip in the cave level with the ball dragging behind you; you'll drop down with the chain holding you there and the ball where it was when you walked off, almost like the chain is going "through" the block, and you're able to swing from the chain and everything!

My screwing around only enabled me to keep it briefly, but I might mess around with it some more; it's pretty fun!

Edit: I also had the pitcher's mitt, if that makes any difference.

Something I've noticed, which I'm not sure counts as a bug or not, is that if you run and jump onto a rope or ladder, you can then jump up off of the ladder and you will still have the velocity of a running jump. A standing or walking jump onto the ladder will not increase the velocity of your later jump. This is a fairly useful maneuver, especially early on, as it lets you reach some platforms that would otherwise require an extra rope to access.

One thing I noticed is that my previous CoG run I only had 50ish bombs, and finished the game with around $650,000. This time I had 97 bombs, nearly destroying the entire city (there were a couple single blocks left floating around but I wanted to save my last couple bombs just in case), and I only ended up with less than $100,000 more than my previous CoG run! How is this possible?

A big part of running up an excessively high score is maximizing your profit from all the other levels; with a lot of luck and skill, plus some tedious min-maxing, you can net well over $500k from all the non-CoG levels. Generally this involves robbing the hell out of all the bomb shops, bombing the hell out of all the buried gems, and waiting until the temple to get the 99 bomb reward from Kali so that you can maximize the number of bombs you use over the course of the entire game.

That's a great way to get yourself permanently stuck so that your only option is suicide!  Gentleman

Is it wrong that I play this game just to find interesting and brutal ways of killing the spelunker and the dame?
Or that I must steal from every shop?

Not true, I do know I was able to get out of that situation, although I don't remember how at all. Maybe swinging hard enough moved the ball? I'm not sure.

new problem: i start the game or the config and get the "spelunky has encountered an error, we have made a report: send/dont send"    but if i just drag the box away, the game works fine. until i come to close it, then it freezes. all ive done is install the game crysis.?? what has gone wrong??

this problem happens with all versions, even the completely separate copy of the game on my memory stick.

Just a minor glitch: I just blew up the shopkeeper in this level and his shotgun got stuck in the wall.

EDIT: Actually, with some imagination, it's not a glitch at all, and kind of cool! Though it's probably still a glitch.
