Up+X to open, Down+X to pick up?
What's wrong with that?  It feels so natural! after 288 plays

And what in the world is the key for?
To unlock the chest.

A list of items and short descriptions would be ace.
But discovering them is part of the fun of the game!

Aah! A brothel! Grin Now I have to play the new version... but I want to work on my own game... ack, I am so conflicted.  Cry

As an aside, this game seems to be attracting some new people to the forums, which is neat.

However, as for getting the variety of a roguelike with the fun of a platformed  Hand Thumbs Up Left Panda Hand Thumbs Up Right  Hand Thumbs Up Left Corny Laugh Hand Thumbs Up Right

if there's a key in a level, there is also a locked chest.

I'll compile a quick list of items I know for you, while I'm at it:

Cape: press Z in mid-air to slow fall.

Eye of Udjat: let's you see jewels hidden in walls. will always be released form locked chests. I've never found two locked chests, so maybe the second gives soemthing else.

Climbing gloves: Useful! let's you cling to walls, and jump. basically, everywhere is an edge.

Jetpack: when I found this, I freaked. you can float for a short period of time. very useful. recharges on contact with ground. reminiscent of cave story's boosters.

there's also bomb paste, which makes your bombs stick to walls. it will always be dropped if you manage to kill a giant spider.

so did I. it's not quite as awesome as the jetpack.

also the jetpack can't warp you into walls.

Why does the Leon shoot me all the time?

Also is there an endgame or does this just go on forever? I haven't gotten very far (I keep dying on level 2  Angry ).

It's fun so far. I've been alternating between a gamepad and the keyboard to see which one feels better.

Alright, so after 250 plays I still haven't seen level 7...

Seriously, I mean, like, now it's going from "challenge" to "pissing me the hell off."

I beg once more for an "Easy" difficulty level. I'm not fond of the idea of only being exposed to a small portion of a game simply because of my skill level.

Man, did I feel great when I blew up this shopkeeper, snatched his shotgun, put on the fancy cape, put the compass in my pocket and took hold of the teleporter. Then I teleported into the wall. ... Droop

Fat chance, girlie!
:D

Also, vdgmprgrmr, you definitely get better as you go. I can make it to area 3 with fair ease every time I play now. If you pay attention (and don't steal from the shopkeepers!), it gets progressively easier.

I've decided to Rate items based on my own personal experince.
It would be great to hear how you guys rate the many items in this game.

Items that GREATLY help me in my Quest:
Cape Shotgun Climbing-Gloves  Bombs
Items that sorta help me in my quest but I could survive without:
Pistol Spring-Shoes Ropes Bomb-Paste Compass Eye-of-Udjat
Items that barely make a difference in my quest:
Web-Cannon Parachute Throwing-Gloves Specticles Bow
Items that may help me but seem to make the game less fun:
Jetpack
Items so bad I avoid them:
Teleporter

Also

Fat chance, girlie!
You actual could have gotten her. At least for now you can pick up items that are diagonally below you.

Don't listen to this naysayer.
Robber's handbook:
1. Always steal from a clothing merchant.
2. Always steal from a kissing booth.
3. Always steal when you're almost out of bombs/ropes. (Only if you really have to, otherwise you can just get them from crates)
4. Never steal otherwise.
5. Only steal once per sector. (After a sector you're no longer wanted)

Edit:
Also completely copying jkd003, here's what I find are must-have items. (So far)

[In order of importance]
Bombs, Rope (Only because you need it to easily shoplift), LadyPerson (A heavily disguised hp potion), Cape, Mining-Pick (Would of come before Cape, but it can brake), Compass, Spring-Shoes.

I've also gotten the Eye of Udjat to re-act weirdly whenever I walk over certain areas. Like, the eye in the corner would open and close and a sound would play. Damn, maybe I should've tried bombing where it re-acted..

Dark areas requiring Flash are the worst. My heart sinks every time I enter a level and it tells me to hit F. It's almost as bad as getting turned into a wall-ball by yeti's/red tribesmen

I love this game.

I have discovered a major flaw in the levle editor: it can used to make the game insultingly easy.

I cna basically give myself tons of bombs/ropes, money, and items on the very first room, with a woman next to the door for 5 health.

I thought so too at first, but your score is not saved to your games Record.
The only thing that seems to be saved is any shortcuts you buy, but I think that's just a bug that needs to be corrected.

hmm. now that I think about it, there really should be a double jump. it's a bit weakened by the jetpack, but it could be cheaper.

The jetpack is IMMENSELY useful. It basically removes the need for ropes or jumping boots, and in Area 3 it WILL save your life.

Aha, now I have realized the power of the teleporter.

Teleport out of the shop, wait for shopkeeper to come chase you.

Teleport into the shop. Steal everything. :D

UM!  Farbs, do you know if:

1. You had $0 when you restarted the game.
2. After you restarted, had the game cleared all your stats, including #plays and so forth?

Sorry, NFI on either count. I've played a few times since though and not yet seen the tunnel man.
