New action with the bow? This has me utterly confused and frustrated me because I can't figure out what it is/how to do it

My brother just discovered that you can break open the prize case in dice houses with a mattock without angering shopkeepers. This also allows you to legitimately purchase the item as if it was in a normal shop.

@Derek I suggest you replace the two cave tiles in the dice game area that covers the prize with ice tiles, making it appear to be glass. Just like how you did with the giant UFO.
Also, I can't figure out the bow's new thing either. And I love the new item, it's very useful, I just don't know how to get it legitimately.

BUG/ARSEHOLE SHOPKEEPER REPORT
I was playing dice and he went, "Come back, thief!" and jumped down and shot me! I wasn't anywhere near the door, and I wasn't throwing the dice at him, or at the door, or doing anything unusual.
That guy.

If you pick up a die you already rolled then he'll kill you for "cheating"

I thought I'd posted a comment today. It was about the parachute not deploying when needed, which I wasn't sure was a new bug because there weren't as many situations in which drop-hanging was necessary in the last build.
I'm not sure about the new item prices and crate value. The great thing about power-up items in 8-bit games was that they completely changed your play style. It was like transforming into a totally different character, Mega Man being the best example, fire flower and tanuki suit Mario being probably the most popular examples. I'd just started using the web gun before this new build, and it got me thinking about how items could be better--and, since items were rare and can only be held one-at-a-time, they could change play style like the great retro games. Now it seems like an item bonanza, like you should always have items. The game used to be focused towards winning without any items. (This isn't coherent, but it's my impression.)
My feeling towards the altars changed after several hundred plays. I had viewed them as a radical shift in tone (and they were), based on the difference between my initial feeling and my feeling after they were introduced. Maybe easy item access will go the same way.
I feel like difficulty has been lost. Like there should be new enemies to go with the new abundance of items. I've lost the sense of a beginner player, but I feel like I've used cheat codes in this new build. There are so many more bombs available (which were previously only available through killing shopkeepers or using the altars). I feel like there should be some viable threat to justify those bombs, like enemies that throw things at you and you can intercept their projectiles with your own. (This is off the top of my head, but it's true insofar as it's what I've thought while playing. I don't know if it's a great idea to implement.)
I still haven't explored all of the new changes, so don't take this as my final word. I'm just offering feedback as it comes to me.

I had an idea about the shopkeepers, if you kill one you could somehow get a chance to redeem yourself. Like if you payed them for all damages then they won't hunt you down but they beef up security or double prices. It's just an idea

I really like that idea, maybe not JUST money - there could be some other kind of challenge involved.

I was thinking offering them a dame or a large sum or money, if you steal and not kill you could just pay for the item later, another idea is you could change the way you look and they wouldn't know who you are. Like someone will appear randomly at the end of a level and offer you a way out of your 'problems", of course he would be a very shady character and you would have to pay him a small fee to keep your secret from the shopkeepers EDIT: Another idea I just had was a motivator to keep some players from stealing/killing shopkeepers. I know there already is one, being: they don't try to kill you blahblablah. But I was thinking something like if you buy a lot you can get discounts or a let you buy a special "behind the counter" item. EDIT... again: I just got to the black market and tried to buy a Jet pack that I thought I had enough for but I guess I didn't and the shop keeper shot me in the face.. I was not pleased to say the least

Sorry it's been so long since my last post. Here are my thoughts.
I noticed that with the flare system redone (which is awesome by the way), my controller had an empty button. I suggest to fill this empty button that we implement a sub slot system. Any item could be reasonably placed in your pocket could be done so to free up your hands. So you wouldn't have to juggle the idol/damsel with your weapon/tool.
A while ago I suggested that a lawyer would appear between stages (ala the tunnel guy) to aid you if you upset the shopkeepers.
Bringing an unopened chest to a shopkeeper will make him give up an offer for it. Which may or may not be more then it's contents worth.
Getting hurt by spider has 1/64 chance of you becoming Spider-Man or his Spelunkey equivalent.

I first misinterpreted that as an un-split box of flares which made me think that that'd actually be an even better idea as a way to appease shopkeepers as it gives a GOOD side to dark levels (which admittedly have been made a bit less evil in the last version) prehaps not a box of flares but maybe some other kind of rareish spawning item or one that you have to go out of your way to get if you want to keep the shopkeepers off your back?

I like the new version! It feels as if horizontal jump distance was increased, I like this. Also, it seems that the Spelunker now is able to do the knee-kick as enemies tend to die if I accidentally jump into them. I absolutely love the new prices and the box of flares. Overall I think that the game became somewhat easier but I don't think that's a problem - I still haven't managed to finish it...

Clearly the redeem-yourself mechanic should be a new findable item: The Moustache! Once picked up, it changes your appearance so that angry shopkeepers no longer recognise you. If you pick it up before you've done anything wrong, then anger shopkeepers, you'll automatically drop it at the end of that level and get away clean. It could be a fun way to tempt people who don't usually burgle to give it a try Love the new version, by the way, the prices have totally transformed the game for me. Means most good playthroughs end up with me using a different combination of items. Cheap Cape, Climbing Gloves and the new Machete was a great one I hadn't tried before. -
