I think we can all agree that this would allow Spelunky to compete with today's hits like Gears of War and Killzone. Derek, if you're reading this, I'd also like to bounce some ideas off you about a new design for the Spelunker himself - a bald space marine in powered armor, equipped with a power drill that's also a flamethrower. Let's talk.

What about incorporating the Euphoria engine? Premade animation is so passe.

I am playing this on a netbook with a 1024x600 resolution.
I can't see the tutorial messages at the bottom of the screen, nor can I see the character when he drops down halfway through the tutorial.
This persists even when I F4 to make it windowed.
I had this issue with my GM games as well, when the view port is larger than the resolution, weird distortions happen.
you seen the config?

Took the words right out of my mouth. It's like the old game designer's adage goes: "If it's not identical to GTAIV, you need to work on it some more." And while Spelunky does resemble GTAIV in many ways - well, it lets you rough up hookers, at least - it lacks the procedural animation that made Rockstar's game an instant classic. Good call, sir.

STANGE BRUG: You know how even if a pushable block is flush with a wall, you can still push it in a bit if you run/jump into it from above or below? Well I ran (not walked) into one of those from just above, with a damsel in my arms, and the block did indeed get pushed in a bit but also me and the lady EXPLODED. Or imploded? Anyway, there was blood, and there were no corpses.

I don't know if this is a bug but, in Area 2 I found some Area 1 tileset-style in one of the shops.  http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/2061/screenshot100zsm.png

I've been meaning to verify this, and indeed the stereo separation on damsel-related noises is backwards.

oh, and jumping up to push a block flush with a wall kills you if you hit it just right:
edit: and now, I can't splat at all.

Couple of interesting things here...

This was my view, level 1. A giant spider as my first challenge - I walked away from this, with one HP left! Fun times, though.

The next two are a series.

With the pitcher's mitt, I threw this arrow at an enemy, and missed. It stuck into the wall.

Then, I ran off the ledge, and grabbed onto the arrow. I wasn't sure what to make of it! Is this intended? If so, it's kind of neat, but limited I suppose!

This one, I think, is a glitch. Maybe related to the arrow? But yeah - That's a rock, stuck in the wall there. I think it got blown into there by a bomb I'd placed.

Yeah, i love Spelunky, its like Rick Dangerous but with more pain and suffering.  Tears of Joy
Except for the tiny detail that everytime the screen gets "busy"(ie too much stuff going on at the same time) i get slowdowns, and consistently every once in a while, it RESTARTS MY COMPUTER..... yeah, i have tried every version, and disabling every other software i might be running at the same time. Im running windows xp. It doesnt happen with any other game. It just resets the freaking pc. I have been reduced to playing it in a friends house like some sort of videogame junkie just to get my fix. Really, a sad state of affairs.  Cry

I've had a couple little bugs so far, only been playing for a few days. They are nothing major, so I don't want to put them on the wiki if no one else has seen them.

1. I play using a gamepad and starting the tutorial was unable to jump, all other buttons worked fine. The config file for joystick started with -2, rather than 2, and when changed worked fine.

Edit: this is apparently due to the joy config option not recognizing my controller. It works fine ingame, and even says it's detected in the config file, just won't let me change the buttons.

2. Upon quitting out through the rope on the main screen, once the game went black during the whole little camel riding scene. I tabbed out and back in just in time to see the last credit or two.

Edit: I believe this may have been due to an automatic update, or something running in the background as I haven't seen it happen again.

Other than that, I've had no problems besides actually surviving the caves. It is a really great game and the random level generator keeps any redundancy minimal while learning how to get through the game. I do think it's a good suggestion to add an extra pocket-style slot for certain items. Maybe pressing down and the buy button could stash a pistol in your belt, or a bow on your back. All things considered though, this is one of the best platformers I've seen in forever, the first thing to distract me at-length from Cave Story. I'd describe it as: Rogue Mulana and the Cave Story of Doom! Hand Thumbs Up Left  Hand Thumbs Up Right

Bug: ropes thrown upwards trigger arrow traps, ropes thrown downwards don't.
