Any fix for the black bars glitch? It's rather annoying. There's a fix where if you run full-screen video for just a second, it goes away after that. A reboot fixes it too.

Basically, though, I just think the game would be a little more consistent if bullets triggered motion traps. That's one of the cool things about Spelunky: things you think would work probably do. Or they fail in a way that totally makes sense when you think about it. The bullets thing just seems a little arbitrary.
On the subject of things doing things you'd expect them to do, this happened today: http://filesmelt.com/Imagehosting/pics/77ceb8cc193ff702df0301be3e8ab2fa.PNGThe pushable block stopped the doorway perfectly. That was pleasantly neat, and one of those little things I love from Spelunky.

Most people who see those black/nontransparent foreground graphics as in those screenshots see it only if they've run some other game. (usually 3d, something like tf2 for instance) Something about the way the game uses the video card, and something not getting properly reset between it and spelunky.
And when that's the cause, taking most video players and switching to fullscreen is enough to get whatever the problem is properly reset so that spelunky then works normally again.

I can't seem to pay the shortcut guy. Whenever I get to the point where he says "Can you lend me a little money. I need 100000 for a new shortcut" there is no yellow text to donate at the bottom and pushing up or down doesn't do anything. If I hit x he doesn't donate anything and he just walks off..... Is there a minimum amount of plays before you can pay him? I'm up to 24 and I've been back to him like 5 times.

Press x once, and then hold up. When you reached the amount of money you want to donate, press x again.

I'm at the point where there should be text that asks me how much I want to donate but there is no yellow text, just him asking me to lend him money in white. I don't get it.

Ok I figured out the problem. I have a widescreen monitor and I'm running it fullscreen so the text was getting cut off at the bottom...doh.

Just registered to say "Thank you"... Thank you very much for this very fine game!I'm quite addicted to this little gem. Have already beaten it twice, now aiming for the City of Gold... I just have two questions: - You want to get rid of the "purchase" button, right? Why not map it to ACTION + UP, so purchasing works just like opening crates and chests? I always forget which button I had mapped, so I accidently throw bombs at the shopkeeper who in turn kills me instantly...
 - Will it be possible to port Spelunky to other systems once you released the source code? I'm thinking of game consoles, namely the Nintendo Wii. As far as I know, the Wii can be programmed for using C++, but I'm no programmer... Take a look at http://www.wiibrew.org, there should be all the info you might need, including an IDE for development for the Wii...
Again, thanks for this game! NinjaN

I recently teleported into a weapon shop, and my guy collected the bomb bags on contact, as if the shop was abandoned. Shopkeeper didn't seem to mind.
I did the same thing again later and it didn't happen, so I dunno.

Bug (?): hold X to arm an arrow, then once the bow is fully drawn hit Esc to pause, release X, then Esc again to unpause; the bow will remain armed without having to hold down the X key (press X to fire an arrow).
It's amazing how many new bow tricks I'm learning now that the thing is actually worth using. Great improvement! (Once it's fixed to actually use the proper ammunition, though, I expect its utility will go back down.)

NinjaN If Derek is going to go though the trouble of porting it to a console which in all likelyhood, would be extremely difficult with third party aid, he might as well go official and get paid for it.

There're quite a number of people in the "Wii scene" doing nothing else but porting other people's applications... I don't know how willing to help these people would be, though... And I agree, he might as well get paid for it! Take Cave Story, for example. This game is getting to ported to the Wii right now, it will be sold over the "WiiWare" distribution network. I don't know for the others, but I for one would pay (a not too high amount) to have Spelunky on my Wii! The Cave Story port is - as far as I understand it - done by a third party dev (Nicalis) while Pixel (the creator of Cave Story) has full control over the project... Here is a link to Cave Story Wii's official website, there's also a dev blog there...
