Our Kickstarter campaign is live! Join us if you love indie games, vikings and Norse mythology! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/682108903/jotun

Jotun is an action-exploration game for PC and Mac that takes you on an epic journey through Viking purgatory.

In Jotun, you play Thora, a Norse warrior who has died an inglorious death and must face the challenges of Viking purgatory to prove herself to the gods and enter Valhalla.

Announcement teaser trailer:

The game is in the very early stages of development, but I thought I'd share what we have so far. I love getting your feedback!

You play her:

To fight them:

Like this:

Thora, Jotun's protagonist:

An environment, what could these runes be?

There's something about those rough outlines that I really like. Looks like this is going to be interesting!

Need Art? Have An Art Jam!

Last weekend, I had the whole crew over to my place to get some work done. We ended up working all through Saturday and Sunday! Coffee

Good thing we had lots of supplies:

Can’t wait to show you what we accomplished!

Here's an update on the main character. What do you think?

The art style actually gives me a Rayman-esque feel. That's pretty cool. Nice idea for an art jam too. Look forward to seeing what the gameplay turns out like!

I like the character design, especially the helmet and hair style. Smiley The image looks like the aspect ratio is wrong, though. Looks squished vertically. Also, her midsection looks a little boring at the moment. A simple belt buckle or something would help, I think.

Hmmmm, good points.

This is a concept, so I'll definitely make sure the aspect ration is correct for in-game assets.

I think that since the character will be fairly small on screen, too many details might end up cluttering up the visual space though.

Thanks for the feedback!  Beer!

Love the sense of scale in the first shot, very cool. Almost a bit of an evocation of Shadow of the Colossus. Art style reminds me a bit of Dragons Quest, which is cool. Very intrigued!

I like this concept, and how tiny the character is compared to the creature.

Hey everyone!

I have a small update to share: Thora's run cycle animation!

It was beautifully drawn by the very talented Alex Boyer. Enjoy!

Earlier this week I presented at an event called the Mount-Royal Game Society Craft Meet-Up in Montreal. I talked about getting to Kickstarter (though I have not yet launched the KS campaign), the creative process behind the making of Jotun and the business and marketing side of indie game dev.

It went well and I got a ton of feedback from fellow devs Hand Thumbs Up Right

Here are the slides I used: http://www.slideshare.net/williamdube/jotun-the-road-to-kickstarter-mrgs-craft-meetup-presentation

How do you guys feel about indies using Kickstarter to get their project going?
