We've added a FAQ section to the website based on developer input:
http://greatestindiegames.com/#faqHere are the most common questions:
Q:
Can I submit if my game isn't ready yet?A: Yes, you can and you should. We will discuss when it's best to include your game on our website depending on its completion state. You can update the information submitted at any time (see below). We'll most likely recommend that we postpone the GIG launch of your game until you have a gameplay video, so that players can have some solid proof that your game is going to happen.
Q:
Can I change the game details or materials after I submit?A: Of course, anytime. Just send us an email at contact [at] greatestindiegames.com with whatever you wish to update or change.
Q:
How or when will I know if my game has been approved?A: We do our best to email you within 48 hours to let you know whether we've accepted your entry.
Q:
If I submit now, when will my game show up on the GIG website?A: We feature a collection of games at the beginning of each month. So if you submit in July, for example, your game will be scheduled for August. Depending on how many games are already scheduled for the upcoming month, your game might have to be added to our backlog and presented as soon as there is a free spot available. We will let you know in the submission confirmation email when we plan to showcase your game. We can also postpone it in case you want to polish the game some more.
Q:
Can I send you a link to my game on Twitter in order to have it on the GIG website?A: You can tweet the link to us and we'll probably have a look. But unless you submit as instructed in our How to Submit section, we won't add the game to our website. We don't submit games ourselves, every developer has to fill in the required information and provide adequate materials.
Q:
Can I sync my game's launch / sale / Kickstarter / Greenlight with its GIG feature? I.e. have the game featured on GIG at a certain date.A: We can only arrange for the game to be showcased at the beginning of a certain month, provided there is a free spot. If you have any of the above events coming up, we recommend that you request the use of our promo space. More details below.
Q:
What's the deal with the promo space?A: The promo space is the one between the Featured and Great monthly games. It is available for indie developers or people doing game dev related work (artists, programmers and so on). It's extremely affordable, because we want you to put money into your project, not ads. We'll usually be rotating up to three ads in the carousel, but we're trying to be as flexible as possible to meet your needs, so the best thing to do is email us and discuss the details. In addition to promo space, we also give shout-outs, mainly on Twitter at the moment, to increase awareness of your game or event.
Q:
Do I get a review?A: A standard review? No, sorry. There are a lot of magazines, websites, blogs, Youtubers and so on, doing standard reviews. However, we do offer our own kind of review: if your game is on our website, it means it's special and worth trying. This is why developers whose games get accepted on GIG receive a badge they can show off on their websites or wherever. We'll most likely give you feedback or tell you what we like most about your game, so that's part of it too.
If you have any other questions, you can post them here or email us at
