... 1-up wasn't making money, Ziff needed to offload it to stay afloat, UGO needed a way to try and make them relevant over other gaming news portals that are similar, IGN, etc...

You know, a few weeks ago I wondered to myself "how on earth do they keep all these podcasts running? They must be doing pretty damn well. Regardless, nice to see a big site podcasting ETC DRAMATIC IRONY ETC." Sad that, in the era of global media, they still strive to be just like everyone else to make money.

Also sad that in order to "save" the place, they had to remove most of what made it what it is.

Incidentally, I also wonder how printed magazines (video game or other) manage to keep afloat. How many people even buy 'em? How much do they cost? Even I only buy 1 mag, once a month out of a possible... 15-ish options. Worrying. After all, I like 'em.

What? But...but working at EGM has been my life goal for the past four years. Concerned

Seriously. I ran down the highway for a mile and a half every month to buy it.

And I drew all my art while listening to their podcasts.

Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

Piece of shit corporations. Lookit, even the Wikipedia article now says 'former video game magazine'.

RIP EGM, I hope I still get to meet Seanbaby and Scott Sharkey sometime in the future,

Yeah, Seanbaby was ace. I still wonder if he did his work voluntarily, or if the other reviewers just stiffed him once and then made it a habit.

I'll admit, though, that most of the information in EGM I was getting sooner from other places. There are dozens and dozens of video game news sites these days, and they can fit far more information in a month than magazines can.

If you are interested in the older EGM magazines you could visit www.retromags.com and participate.  It is a preservation site for old magazines (not just EGM).
