The Discount Dangers

Well, the RPG I've been working on has a new look and I'm ready to show it off. Take a gander at The Discount Dangers, a tale of half-priced heroes who specialize in lopsided adventures, experts in retrieving that thing from your shed you're too lazy to look for, and scholars of delving deep, deep, deep into tankards of ale when they're through. It's all just an excuse to get your dungeon crawl on, and there is no shortage of dungeon. The game is for Android and desktop. I had a thread for the engine before I decided where to take it; you can read the old thread here.

If you want to get your hands dirty and smash some mice yourself, you can check out this demo build of Discount Danger:

Desktop: http://aarondgordon.com/amt/discountdanger.jar
Android: http://aarondgordon.com/amt/discountdanger.apk

For the desktop build, the mouse just simulates the touchscreen. Tap to open your menu or examine, swipe to move. The arrow keys can also move you around, but interaction is still done with the mouse. Download it, play with class combinations, and let me know how you managed to broke it / what sucks / what needs fixing.

Looks pretty interesting, but are the enemies supposed to look that much and have names that similar to the hulk?

Yes, in fact every enemy in this comedy RPG is Hulk-themed. We have City Fulk, The Incredible Sulk (he's depressed), and many more. We'd never parody anything, I've cleared this with Marvel and they're enthusiastic to see what else I do with the The Incredible Hulk™ license.

EDIT: How could I forget The Inedible Hogan, a sandwich that no man has ever finished.

Items can be used from the menu now. At this point I'm just going through and filling in little bits of functionality I missed- the majority of the gameplay programming is finished.

Tons of progress today! Nausea is my new favorite status effect. Implemented a ton of new skills, got races and classes ingame, and character generation is most of the way there.

How do you best him lumberjacking-off?

By outlumberjacking him, obviously.

Character creation is almost done; I just have to tie the GUI to the actual generator underneath. You get a choice of race, class, and subclass. Race determines half of your stats and a passive racial ability. Primary class determines the other half of your stats and your moveset. You get a reduced set of the subclass' skills. Haven't decided how many races / classes there will be, but at this point it's really easy to add more.

Party creation is working! I’m liking the random feature already- earlier I got “Magnum, the Belligerent Gambler”

Your code is very good and highly legible, I also like how you made almost everything scriptable with XML! Hand Clap Smiley
