Level Designer Needed

Crooked Tree Studios is seeking a talented and dedicated level designer to work on our second title, For My Brother.

We are looking for someone who is able to create large and sprawling platforming and terrain puzzles, from greybox stage to final polish. They should enjoy designing creative mazes and puzzles using set mechanics. They should have a good idea of how to make fun and engaging levels that flow well in active gameplay. They will be working with the rest of the art team very closely and should have excellent communication skills. While their primary job will be in level design, the ideal candidate should also be able to create environment assets in a 3D modeling program such as Max or Maya.

About Us:

We are an indie team that is passionate about new, creative content and technology in games. We’re a small studio and everyone wears a lot of hats, so we’re looking for someone who has a wide set base of skills and would like to learn more! We value diversity, accessibility, and ethics; someone with these values in mind will likely be the best fit for our team.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent level of experience (portfolio).
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine, preferably UE4
  • Experience using Max or Maya to model and unwrap 3D game assets.
  • Ability to hand-paint game textures in Photoshop or a similar program.
  • Deep understanding of art theory, level design, and game design principles.
  • Ability to match a house style when creating art assets.
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to give and receive critique.

Bonus:
  • Previously shipped titles
  • 2D platformer design experience
  • ZBrush experience
  • Scripting/Kismet knowledge

Location:
  • Pacific Time Zone required.
  • Preference given to candidates in commuting distance to Seattle or Silicon Valley. Willingness to move to either location at a future time appreciated, but not required.
Solid internet connection required for Core Hours meetings (M-F 1-4PM PST).

Benefits:
  • Flexible hours, even during crunch time.
  • Generous vacation policy
  • Medical reimbursement ($100/month)
  • Reasonable living wages.
  • We are funded through release of the game.
  • Open, accepting, and respectful workplace for people from all walks of life

Hi,

Just a heads up, from the above, what you're requesting is more of a level artist / level designer hybrid.
If possible, I would suggest modifying the thread title so as not to be misleading: most professional level designers aren't artists (at least not in the last 3 studios I've been).

Good luck!

You're totally right. I have modified the title accordingly.
