Well hello there.

Now that this has been posted on the front page, I thought I'd make a thread for TigBox.

TigBox was an idea that me, Jeff and Derek discussed at last year's GDC as a sort of "Steam" for indie games. It was all pretty theoretical up until a couple of weeks ago when the advances in TigDB's API made it possible to put together a quick prototype.

Here is the first alpha release. It doesn't work very well yet, but it should give you an idea of what's to come. There are a lot of games that won't install or run properly, mostly because they're pulled from inconsistent sources, hosted all over the place and a lot of them make it impossible to auto-install. We'll work on trying to get that stuff cleaned up and ironed out.

I'll be updating it pretty heavily in the next few days, seeing how its pretty broken right now.

The immediate features that will be added in order of importance are:

 - A mandatory autoupdate system that will download the latest version of the client upon launch.
 - A way to remove games (Big Laff)
 - More comprehensive search options

Anyway, forgive the bugginess (Jeff totally bullied me into releasing it early), and let us know what features you would like to see happen and feel free to post whatever bugs you may find in this thread.

(Don't post bugs about games not installing though. I know it's like the point of the app, but it's not something that can be fixed quickly).

Is there a mac version?

Not currently, but it's written in a very cross-platform way, so there will definitely be one at some point in the future.

I think this is a superb idea, i have been thinking about the same lately. A steam app with close connection to the TIGdb. It would bee sweet with some neat payment system so you can use it as a serious distrubution platform for indies that want to make a living on their games. That and the close connection to TIGSource and TIGdb would make this the number one place for indie games in the future.

The app crashed when i tried to launch Warning Forever after installing it. Or maybe it hadn't installed yet? I assume that they only actually appear after installation is complete. They should show up as downloading before that really - double clicking a game just takes me to the "your games" page and nothing apparently to happens (even though in my heart, I know it's contacting the web server and gettin ghte download info etc). Anyway I couldn't get any info out of visual studio so I can't give you more infos, sorry.

Aww, the app itself crashes immediately at launch for me.  Cry

So!  Is it going to support ACHIEVEMENTS?  That's all I care about nowadays. Addicted

I think that all the crashing is due to some weird conflict with the common controls library that i'm linking against.
