Holy batman, I was not expecting so many people to submit music! Anyway, now it is time to VOTE!! Please listen to each of the finalists and vote on your favorite track! VOTING ENDS IN 7 DAYS

Here are your 3 finalists (In no particular order):
Liam Nixon
https://soundcloud.com/liam-nixon/gay-cat-waltz
The_Wizard_Lakmir
https://kylepreston.bandcamp.com/album/waltz-of-the-ghost-choir
Zack Parrish:
https://soundcloud.com/zack-parrish/mario-gets-drunk-and-listens-to-dubstep

And here is the feedback in the order of the submissions! Note that I am merely providing feedback because I think feedback is helpful, please don’t take it to heart and if you don’t agree/like something I say it’s okay and normal! If you guys have any feedback for each other, feel free to share as always Smiley

The Translocator
https://soundcloud.com/the-translocator/an-endless-waltz

I love the entrance of the second voice at about :27 it adds a nice charm. However, by only having two voices the listener is left wanting more! The melody bits are nice hooks, but if only there was more of a harmony/backbone to the piece it would be all the better. Granted you did say that you completed the track quickly, it certainly has potential, maybe you could expand on it!

Glyph

The beginning to this is hilarious! Definitely catchy and waltz-y. I love how you change up the harmony, and the counter-melodies are well done. The one thing that did catch my attention is that each of the instruments sound the same! Changing up each instrument would have made the listener more inclined to listen on. Then again, when the song ended after the minute was up I wondered where the rest of the song was… I wanted to listen on!

Taut Nerve
https://soundcloud.com/tautnerve/once-we-are-dead

First off, nice sound! The ostinato in the beginning is a great way to enter into the song. I can certainly imagine a creepy waltz, and the forest imagery that you provide is great! I think the tin violin is my favorite part, along with the harmony on top of it that comes in shortly after the first tin violin line. You certainly were able to expand on your ideas which is fantastic, but the listener is left with… well too many bits of melody to try to remember. I love that you change up the instrumentation so much but the main melody doesn’t seem to come into play until 1:10. Then there is so much going on. Overall a well formed piece, ending as it began, and even fit with the dance theme.

Zack Parrish
https://soundcloud.com/zack-parrish/mario-gets-drunk-and-listens-to-dubstep

Somebody outdid himself. Great use of chiptune, effects and all! The name fit perfectly and I couldn’t help but laugh once the oh so wonderously drunk wub came in. If anything you should have expanded on the song! The trumpet was unexpected but welcome as was the xylophone. Each instrument you used had it’s own charm.

GuitarAnd
https://soundcloud.com/guitarand/alternative-waltz

What a combo, creating an alternative walt! The melody is certainly catchy, and the dissonance is fitting. Main guitar melody with strings in the background was a good idea! I think one of my issues was with the drum part. The drums weren’t bad, but they were either too loud or too repetitive. They’re kind of in your face, which is fine at the beginning of a song but I feel as though they should have decreased in volume after the first phrase had been established. Again one big plus in the song was the strings. They are a great counter to the melody and the fact that they are occasionally dissonant to the guitar is daring yet adds charm to the track. Overall, a good entry I look forward to hearing your other work.

Miffycaker
https://soundcloud.com/miffycaker/tigsource-musical-challenge-xxxiii-danse-macabruh

First off the instrumentation is very out there! Interesting, yet well done combos. Incredibly creepy voices at the end too(or at least they sound like voices o.O). I feel like the song is lacking in overall melody though. I like the muffled flute line, but I feel like there could have been more. Also this is more technical but the zap(a reversed sound I’m guessing) sounds on each beat that come in at about :22 and end at :42 seconds(then come back in toward the end) sound slightly ahead of the beat kind of causing a sort of phasing. Definitely a creepy waltz though! I like that it is different and shows off new ideas.

Mono
https://soundcloud.com/monomakesmusic/press-start

It starts off so cute ^.^ Certainly something I’d enjoy listening to by itself. The fact that it sounds like a traditional chiptune is also a plus. The one drawback is that it isn’t really a waltz! It sounds like it could be a dance and is in ¾, but I feel as though it may be because of the drumbeat… Then again the beat fits with the feel of your song so I personally wouldn’t change it.

The Wizard Lakmir
https://kylepreston.bandcamp.com/album/waltz-of-the-ghost-choir

Such a soothing piece! Your mix is well done and the melody is simple, yet catchy.  And the transition at 1:03?! So unexpected, but yes! It’s one of those things that you don’t realize you want until you’ve already gotten it. One of the things you might improve on(Yes, I’m going to be nitpicky here) is the velocity of each note. I noticed that your velocities are varied, but when it comes toward the end of your song it seems that the pizzicato strings are occasionally plucked too ferociously. You could have very well done that on purpose, in which case you can disregard the comment. However if you didn’t intend on it, try looking at the individual velocities to see if there are some that obviously stick out from the rest and are louder than the others. If so you’d usually want them to all be in the same range unless you are purposefully trying to accent one particular note. Overall a good job!

Pgil
https://soundcloud.com/pgil-1/luc

Interesting that there was more than one waltz/rock combo. The sound is very unique! I particularly like the transition at :57. Such a nice slow waltz feel. One thing that sticks out to me, is that the piece seems to feel like it doesn’t know where it’s going each measure. It’s not necessarily a choppy harmony or melody, it just seems like you weren’t exactly sure where you wanted to take the piece. I will say however that the transition at around 1:25 is really smooth and seems more thought out.  As I’ve said to some of the others, although you had a few different melodies, I want something that sticks out, something I can remember and really want to listen to more!

SmaugPenDraig
https://soundcloud.com/meurig-llyr-jenkins/ghost-slumber-waltz

First off, you weren’t rude or late to submit and welcome to TIGSource! I really enjoyed the beginning of your waltz! Once the flute comes in it begins to sort of sound like you weren’t sure where you were taking the melody, but the piece comes back well at :41. Then when you bring the oboe in, at first listen I thought there weren’t enough instruments playing but as it progressed and you added more on top of the line it was actually surprising! The way you added the dissonance within the strings on top of the oboe line, and to end like you were taking yourself out of the scene was clever! Overall I like your ideas as they are creative, and I do think you can work on the volume levels of your mix. For example the oboe and flute line were slightly louder than one would expect from a traditional orchestra, but that’s nitpicky and you’ll learn to fix that as you write more!

Liam Nixon
https://soundcloud.com/liam-nixon/gay-cat-waltz

Your song sounds like a mixture of Underwater Mario and a K.K. Slider mix! It’s pretty hilarious, especially what you did with the vibrato in the lead. Plus you were always keeping things interesting when you modulated. I think the only bothersome tidbit was actually the vibrato. I know, I know I complimented it, but after a while it becomes a bit overbearing. I think as a listener it would have been cool to tone down the vibrato (as hilarious as it is) and then bring it back a bit further into the piece so the ears can hear something different. I will say though, the overall song is hilarious and very fitting to the name!

M4useviecr
https://soundcloud.com/jasminecoopermusic/dance-with-my-monther
Haha I was not expecting a reggae/waltz combo! Regardless you did a good job with it! The chords you used were really snazzy and the mix is well done. As I’ve said with some of the other submissions, I like the motif you use and it’s nice that you mix up the instrumentation, but after a while the listener wants a definitive melody. Either way, the song itself was a cool new idea and sounded like a sweet reggae/waltz jam!

Narolol
https://soundcloud.com/rednoisestudios/promenade-of-madness

This is a nice tune! I like how you start the beginning, very tumbly and mad as your name suggests. However as the tune progresses I don’t hear much of a melody. The background chords are great, but if there isn’t a melody it’s easier for the listener to get distracted and stop really listening to your song. Again, I really like the spine of your song and think it would be even more fantastic if it had some body to it! You’ve definitely shown you have the skills for it too!

Peregrinus
https://soundcloud.com/n-galipeau/the-little-ones

Your mix is incredibly well done, and I love the instrumentation. The synth+orchestra is always a cool combo. One big kicker for me was that there was no melody! Of course in the beginning the synth is a good starter but from there it seems to be more of the backbone of a good song. Another thing that I noticed was that it sounds very similar to Danse Macabre, in regards to the chordal structure and some of the bell parts. Overall, again good mixing but it left me wanting more melody wise!

Nathan Cleary

First off Nathan, sadly I had already chosen the finalists at the time that you entered since the submissions had already been past due but I decided I’d give feedback to you still. Next time please keep in mind that the date/time constraint written in the first post of the thread is set in stone unless the host says otherwise.

Your song certainly has a lot of charm! It’s mixed well and the sample quality is quite good too. I love your use of percussion and string work. Nice melody and everything. It’s overall a solid piece that would fit well in a game.

Another big thank you to all of the participants! I wasn't expecting such an amazing turnout and all of the pieces presented had a charm of their own. It certainly made a fun challenge to host.
