Thanks for the kind words - In response to whether it missed the point of the challenge, I didn't feel so, creating harmonic content with only percussion was interesting and I think the great thing about these challenges are that everyone has a different take on what they will do with the guidelines set for us y'know.

I have no qualms with it as far as the rules go, not saying anything else about it until challenge is over though. :p

In that case - can I use a piano? That's a percussion instrument

Already said I prefer people didn't, and if you use piano as a crutch I will hold it against you.

What Zack said, speaking as the person who asked last time. Anyway, I made a submission as well. https://soundcloud.com/pythonblue/arrival-of-the-natives/s-O4zOnIf anyone would prefer not downloading it, I'll upload it to Soundcloud when I'm back home. Anyway, I feel I did relatively well in abandoning my retro-style niche with this one. Only major difficulty I had was making it a suitable RMS, as I usually work with sustained instruments layered with the percussion, if the latter is even present. Enjoy this piece, which, while without melody, is reminiscent of African tribal music. EDIT: replaced with a SoundCloud link.

Thanks a lot! I realize it's slightly repetitious, but then, it's hard to make variety in a given track with just rhythm.

So I scrapped the acoustic guitar noise idea and went for this terrifying Eastern-sounding thing. I limited myself to Taikos, Lion Drums, Kendongs, Bajiaogus, Gongs, Bowls, and my personal favorite, scraping a Gong with a Ball Mallet, . Wish I had a bit more time to dedicate; but work is getting in the way. My ultimate goal with this was to put poop in your pants. I give you: Séance Of The Moon Rabbit * please note, I attached this to an already existing EP, which has an 'album release date' of Aug 19th, but I wrote it for this here competition. p.s. I just noticed a significant decrease in quality between streaming it on Bandcamp and listening to it in iTunes, so for better quality, I put a download link on DropBox.

BANZAI !!! WW2 themes. All recorded with my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone in Australia and Japan. Features a field recording of a Kyoto preschool playing percussion. I was so disappointed that they'd stopped by the time I'd got close enough to get a decent recording. They teach babies to play drums to synthed up prog rock over there! Nuts! Enjoy. https://soundcloud.com/joelmclean/banzaiBTW my soundcloud is purely for my phone recordings. Everything else is at www.leoj.bandcamp.com

I started something for this a couple of weeks ago, but I wasn't really happy with it. I may check it out and see if I can work with it (or just do something new really quick).

OK, I finally got around to finishing this! It's got marimba, steel drum, a rock drumkit, and some percussion I improvised out of pencils and a glass. https://soundcloud.com/pgil-1/stucco

Cool, more stuffs. One more day(and a half) to go... I get home around 5:30pm EST on the 1st so if your entry is in by the time I get on my laptop you're still safe. Otherwise... take a hike! :D
Assuming all goes well I should have the 3 finalists up by like... that same evening.

Here's my submission for the challenge: https://soundcloud.com/asavary/tailpipe-heroesI used the Kinetic Metal instrument Tailpipe as the basis of the track, and also used synthetic drumkits, sampled ethnic percussion, 8-bit bells, synthetic bells, and a xylophone. I worked on another track for the contest too (I guess I was really inspired) but it's not complete yet - I'll see if I can finish it today.
