Einhander. Castlevania SOTN is close though. Also, CTR is probably my favorite racing game as well. Certainly better than Mario Kart 64.

The real question is why Bushido Blade isn't everyone's favourite PS1 game.

Great game and probably the most worthwhile fighter on the system. (others were shitty arcade ports or got better sequels later)

my favorite ps1 games arent necessarily v good but they are def. worth checking out for one reason or another

digimon world

ok this game is jank as fuck and also really obtuse but when you get down to it it's got a LOT of really interesting mechanics and a progression/worldbuilding system that no other game has really approached

vagrant story

really awesome art style and color palette. game itself is jank tho

breath of fire 3

one of the few older jrpgs i've actually had the patience to finish (and thats saying something)

breath of fire 4

prob the best looking ps1 game ever. pixel art in this game is immaculate, prob the best in any game ever. never actually bothered beating the game tho. the camera pissed me off.

xenogears

more games need to have 2d sprites with 3d backgrounds tbh. got bored after the first disc

Yea. The Suikoden 2 battles looked really good to me, despite the low polygon count. The environment just feels right.

Many of the commands in battle end up being carried out simultaneously, so even though you have a lot of characters in your party it doesn't take much time to attack the enemies. The exception is when you use runes and other powerful skills, but they are limited and only for emergency use.

Why does everyone I know love that game, IMO ctr was boring... battle mode was pretty fun though

Ehh I can't just say ONE PS1 game... (well ok Crash 1-3 are closest to my heart) Crash 2, Spyro 3, Team Buddies, Mickey's Wild Adventure, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Metal Gear Solid, Battle Arena Toshinden 2... and many others.

PS1 has lot of weird and shitty games but are still interesting to play... the sudden change from 2D to 3D really shows, there weren't many "rules" in 3D game design if you know what I mean.

more games need to have 2d sprites with 3d backgrounds tbh.

If I had to pick just one, it would be FF8.

Soul Reaver, Misadventures of Tron Bonne, Bugs Bunny Lost In Time and Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf were all close contenders at one point.

they did a really great job with culling level geometry while maintaining fun gameplay in ctr, the multiplayer is a huge technical achievement!
