And today we will show you work in progress footage from another location. It's called "Black Book"

The story: In March 1960, the CIA put forward their plan for the overthrow of Castro's administration to the U.S. NSC and already in April began to recruit anti-Castro Cuban exiles in the Miami area. Assessment and training was carried out on Useppa Island and at various other facilities in South Florida.

Gameplay: in this mission the player will infiltrate such training base to gather some information about CIA assassins, eliminate some targets and sow fear and chaos to the hearts of anti-Castro soldiers

Well, yes and no During World War 2 there was real SMERSH (acronym of Death to Spies in russian). This was the name of Soviet counterintelligence service. After the WW2 counterintelligence and intelligence merged into the KGB. So, during WW2 your are playing as SMERSH agent, and after that as KGB operative.

“Mole” – in espionage jargon is a term that used by Soviet Intelligence (KGB) meaning an agent that deeply incorporated into the structure of the enemy forces, tending to deliver an important, sensitive information. Often this people are recruited “for growth”, with a view that sooner or later the “Mole” will reach higher position in the hostile organization and will deliver useful information.

Your objectives on this level will be to find out who is the “Mole”, record conversation with hostile party and eliminate the traitor without the noise.

Thank you for your continued support! 

We were interviewed last week. Full interview will be available soon. And today, I can share with you the answer to one of the interesting questions we have received that will shed some light on the game story.

Did you study the Cold War and the Third Reich to ensure accuracy within the settings in Death to Spies 3?

Of course we did! History is not just the one steady book. We did read lots of materials on the subject we work on, watched many documentary movies about the Soviet counterintelligence work, especially about events during the period of the Cold War. There are many conspiracy theories about John F. Kennedy assassination, starting from Mafia, Soviet involvement and up to the most common idea that it was CIA secret operation. The last theory is exactly the one, which our story is based on. It seems like John Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev were in some kind of confrontation back there, but they both managed to find solution to the Cuban missile crisis and prevent direct war between the United States and Soviet Union. I guess that Soviets were interested in keeping this kind of relations. So, you as a KGB colonel will help your old American friend from World War 2, who is working in CIA, to find out what is going on there in a political backstage, trying to prevent an assassination and to keep Soviet Union out of bad consequences of this tragedy, out of being framed up as a guilty in this crime.

No stealth fans here? 

In November 1961, operation “Mongoose” was officially authorized by President John F. Kennedy. It was the covert operation to remove Fiedel Castro from power, including complex propaganda, psychological war and direct sabotage. CIA tried to kill Castro a dozen of times with poisoned cigars and pens, hiring Mafia to do the job, bombs disguised as sea shells, which Cuban leader liked to collect during his scuba diving. There is even was a secret plan to spray chemicals on his clothes and in his rooms with the purpose that it will cause loss of his world famous beard.

However, it is unclear whether the Kennedys knew about that. There is evidence that he opposed the assassination as policy. After the failure of the Bay of Pigs invasion, his brother, Robert Kennedy was in charge of this operation.
