Alevice, aren't they doing it now with things like Unity, FPS Creator and other easy engines? Really with such easy to use gamedev tools I'd expect more people 13 year olds are making games than 20 years olds. Not commercial maybe but still games nevertheless.
I am making one as well, planning to do IGG campaign later this year. Link to the devlog is in my signature.
military cover based shooters then!

endless ocean is very underrated yes. its the closest thing to a console noctis so far. <3
except when it forces u to listen to a cheesy enya style rendition of "amazing grace" 50 times in a row. thankfully it lets u load ur own music.
is the 2nd one good?

it adds a really weird overarching story and waggling quicktime events. definitely more game-y than the first. the story is like a low-rent underwater indiana jones tv movie. everything else about it is an improvement though.

this was bound to happen as people who grew up with the n64 enter their mid 20s
More like late 20s, since I'm 24 and I was only 5 when Super Mario 64 came out. I don't think that many kids got to play the N64 at that age. Amusingly none of those games look like having 5th gen graphics. Maybe because the 3D of that era was just way too ugly =P (it'd be like trying to make a pixelart game with 2nd gen graphics)

Stop being so old. Reminding me that I am old.
I turn 23 this year and I'm pretty sure I got the game for Christmas the year I turned 6, i.e. 1998.
I played through all 120 stars just days ago. Still a great game.

Not gonna dig through ten pages of fluff, but on a tangent, wouldn't the "Tony Hawk's Underground" series fit this? I mean... don't get me wrong, it was about staying in perpetual motion, pulling a few tricks between jumps - but more than that, it was a series of skate parks and urban sprawls with a good amount of exploration and collectathon going on in it.
The LEGO-spinoff games are also a good, valid argument. Sure, they get different models/settings (and Marvel/DC get voiceovers), but on the whole, the level design is nothing but "Ability Gates," tied to the collectable characters as they get 3 classes of collectables in each level in order to build all of the crap in each game. It's a pretty copypaste formula, but that doesn't stop it from being a fun/good one; it's one of the few modern series of the games I can fully respect, and the only one I've seen that does "good" movie tie-ins, at that.

tony hawk games were already talked about itt
idk ive only played lego batman 2 because it was free on ps plus, but that seemed to linear to me to fit the criteria. definitely has collecathon aspects tho.

@Baconman FOMO you have lost a good discussion with little fluff
Tony hawk is closer to mario 64 than banjo kazooie, also the only game that translate classic sonic in 3D
