Mars Taxi I still hear today: "Hello! Taxi!" Motorhead Incoming Came bundled with my first GFX card. My beloved ATI Rage! And a racing game from circa 1997/1996 that came with my computer, whose name I forgot.

I'm sure this kind of thread pops up intermittently. What are your favorite games that no one else knows or cares about? One of mine is Clash at Demonhead: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clash_at_DemonheadThis game was waaayyyy ahead of its time in so many ways. Highly recommended if you like metroidvanias.

The Spirit Engine 2 is the big one for me. This game was many years before its time. It was released back when Steam was a tightly controlled platform and small indies had little hope of entering the PC market. The game got rave reviews from RPG fans but sold poorly and the developer ended up turning the game into a freeware title. It's a sad tale of a dev who excelled at everything but marketing and faded into oblivion.
I've kinda taken it upon myself to spread knowledge of the game in any way I can. Some years ago I recorded videos of every boss fight and uploaded them to my YouTube channel. I plan to add more videos in the future that show the different cutscenes and how they change depending on the characters you picked, and I will continue to sing its praises to anyone who will listen (and some who won't).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ancient_Art_of_WarVery happily surprised a few weeks ago when I read Fundamentals of Strategy Game Design and the author used AAOW as the major example for mechanics etc throughout the book. Someone else also remembers. EDIT: Oh, except they made a new version for ios/andriod last year and did not even tell me: http://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Art-of-War-2/dp/B00AJ77MJG Not a fan of the updated graphics, but at least hopefully they kept the awesome gameplay intact and did not let the IAP-model ruin it too much. Will have to try it some day. At least it looks like it is the real thing made by the original team/family so that is really nice.

here's a few
mole mania: really neat puzzle/action game for original gameboy, designed by miyamoto himself. somehow remained completely obscure.
sin & punishment 2 is one of the best wii games, yet no one ever seems to talk about it.
noctis iv: games like proteus or no man's sky owe a whole freaking lot to this game. it was also the first "indie game" that really blew me away

Did you play Crystal Caves? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_CavesYOU HIT AN AIR GENERATOR! (bad video quality but has game sounds and no talking) (better video quality but game sounds turned very low and talking all the time) The first episode of three was shareware and when i bought a pack of ten floppy disks, one of the disks contained that game. I played the game many times, but never bought the other two episodes (not shareware).

To this day, I still feel like the graphics/atmosphere is fantastic. "WOW! 50,000 POINTS!" Did you know Apogee/3D Realms dumped a bunch of these on Steam? There's even an anthology pack now. I still might replay the entire Cosmo series for only 5 bucks.

Legacy of the Ancients was a FANTASTIC early rpg that was one of the few to break the mold and not be a 100% ultima clone, it had 3d mazes and you leveled up not by experience but by completing quests. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Legacy_of_the_Ancients.jpgI also particularly liked "Red Story Rising" for the C64, an eary tom clancy sim game The original ultima games themselves seem weirdly unknown these days too, EA didnt just let that series fester and die after they killed origin, they brutally murdered it and spit on it's grave until they made SURE people would never see a proper new ultima game.

Mole Mania was fucking fantastic.
And Cosmo was like one of the very first PC games I played. That and Captain Comic 2 are what DOS feels like to me.

ikr me and my friends all really liked that game back then. for me it was one of my favorite gb games along with pokemon and zelda link's awakening. once i got access to the internet i was surprised to find out how obscure it is. i thought it was going to be regarded as a classic for sure lol.

Brutal Sports Football for the Amiga https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brutal_Sports_Football. Great little game, amusingly violent to my teenage mind and complicated enough that playing my friends was endlessly fun. Yet weirdly, every time I've mentioned it for years I've just blank looks from pretty much everyone.

Amulets & Armor was a first person RPG that was outdated even before it was released so consequently it sank without a trace. The only place I can remember seeing it was in a cheap bin but I passed over it for Daggerfall instead which was the right choice in the end. It's freeware now so you can all go and see what there wasn't a fuss about.
