We've been wanting to add a tournament feature to our game Prismata (
http://prismata.net) for a while now, but as developers, we felt that we were always pushing it further and further back as we focused on other development goals. So to ensure that it gets done, one way or another, we've set a hard deadline for ourselves by inviting our whole community (including several professional Hearthstone and poker players) to a tournament that doesn't yet exist.
Moreover, as a "throwing down the gloves" gesture to larger developers of competitive online games, we plan on making incredibly good in-game tournament software that is as good (or better) than anything else available (with poker sites perhaps being the "gold standard"). With games like Hearthstone sorely lacking in features like replays, observing, tournaments, etc., we want to show that it's possible to do an excellent job in surprisingly little time. And as veterans of MIT hackathons, we're confident that we'll have a phenomenal tournament infrastructure after 30 hours.
The stream will cover everything, from the initial planning and design of the tournament system at hour 0, to our first ever open Prismata tournament, which will commence at hour 30.
