Hi all,
We've posted this on a couple different boards here before, but as we very recently submitted our game to the IGF, in our endless search for attention and shameless self-promotion we've decided to post it here now too.
So what is Barony? In a word: Barony is a 3D, first-person, multiplayer, real-time, ARPG roguelike. Okay, that's not really one word. But the point is, Barony is a complicated game involving lots of harsh rules and randomness. The game draws a lot of inspiration both from traditional roguelikes (especially nethack) as well as other first person RPGs, such as System Shock and Ultima Underworld.
In Barony, the eventual goal of the game will be to destroy an undead lich named Baron Herx, who terrorized the overworld in life and is now holding out in a vast dungeon that only you have the guts to conquer.
Of course, randomly generated dungeons only get more fun when you have a couple buddies exploring them with you.
The game looks like Minecraft.Maybe so, but Minecraft it is not! The game uses a pixel-voxel art style because the game literally employs hundreds upon hundreds of assets to put together every little detail of its randomly generated world, and going for anything prettier would not be a realistic development goal given the scale this game is operating at.
So can I already play this game or what?As a matter of fact, YES! For the past several months we've been releasing free alphas of Barony on our website for people to download and play at their leisure. As an alpha, not everything we have planned for the game is in at this point, but a very very large number of them are, and we encourage you to go give the game a shot sometime yourself.
You can get the game at our website here:

I'm not sure I want to download it yet. Then look at these WONDERFUL IMAGES instead!
This warrior has just emerged victorious from a difficult battle, it seems.
Different creatures fighting amongst themselves is a common sight in Barony, as is in-fighting.
If you take too long in a level, the Minotaur may come out to eat you!
Shops like this one are often full of supplies but well-guarded against thieves.
In the darkness of the dungeon, human allies often make useful companions.
