Hey everyone!

I just finished adding some resources / tutorials that I recently went through that've helped me to grow in my creative education.  I was wondering if there were any books / tutorials you personally have gone through and would recommend.

Thanks!

I thought this was going to be about like, the qualification side of education. Was going to say: if you're in games, a game design degree isn't worth much to many people; do compsci, or art, or something else applicable outside of games.

On the actual topic:

Honestly, I've largely found internet tutorials to be a waste of time - you often learn how to do something, not why, or any particularly widely applicable skills - this is particularly true with programming though.

Some art tutorials/ramblings from Arne that have helped me with reasoning about things:

Best way to learn (imho) is by doing, of course.

That's good stuff.  I found that site in college, and it really motivated me then as it still does now.

It feels safer doing tutorials, but I know they'll only bring me so far.  I'll have to start doing my own practice soon.

creative education

Ok, it's the obvious suggestion, but i'm adding it here for the sake of completeness:

http://www.amazon.com/Art-Game-Design-Lenses-Second/dp/1466598646

This book is AWESOME. It has a lot to say about all the different aspects of game development, and the 100 lenses scattered through the book truly help in seeing things in a different perspective. Explaining better, the lenses are ways to look to something, and looking things through different ways opens new roads to your creativity.

I only read the first edition, can't say anything about the second yet.  Sad
