Dodgeball Blitz is an action sports game. All players will have the basic mechanics of running, catching and throwing but many will also have special techniques to assist their team in one way or another. It's up to you to choose the best players for your team and master the techniques and combos worthy to be called the best in the league!
What's the gameplay like?
Dodgeball Blitz puts you on a team of five where you are the team captain. Before a round starts, you select the player you wish to start as but you can change the player you control in the middle of a match while in mid play. Only one player can be controlled at a time unless playing in Multiplayer Mode. As far as mechanics, all players can run, throw, and catch, but all players also have a stamina bar and a specials meter.
The stamina bar is tied to the turbo button and it is drained while running and throwing but is also an asset as the players obviously move faster and throw harder while in turbo mode. If the turbo button is used while attempting to catch the ball, you will notice your catch ratio increases as the timing system is more forgiving of any mistakes you may make. But this also means that if you completely run out of stamina the player you are controlling may prove to be nearly useless.
The specials meter is tied to your game play. The better you perform in the match the quicker it rises. After you reach a certain level, you can unleash a special technique; whether to waste your enemies or save your allies.
Sometimes there are circumstances where you need to use a special technique but have not raised your meter to the right level required, this is where combo plays can be used. You can start a combo with another player on your team and combine the special meters between the players to reach the level required to perform a high level technique. For low level techniques such as the red fireball seen in the trailer, you would likely only need two total players on a team to utilize a combo to use it. You can also create a chain of more than two players to raise the meter level even higher. The most players you can have in a combo is the total number of players in the match that are not out and you cannot use one player twice in a combo.
There are many play modes in Dodgeball Blitz, including solo, co-op, and vs. mode. Below are the play modes you can experience in Dodgeball Blitz.
Tournament Mode: Take on the best, and try to beat the champion of the league. He is undefeated, but that doesn't mean you don't stand a chance!
Story Mode: Play as the member of a league who wants to build the best team and win the championship title. Do you have what it takes to pick skilled players, build a strong team, and advance to the championship game? It's always a fight to the top, both in and out of the stadium, as your teammates and opponents mix like oil and vinegar!
Multiplayer: Challenge friends both locally and over the internet! Choose your team from story mode, customize a team, or select a standard team. Compete against friends to prove who has the better skills and strategy!
Arcade Mode: This is a street ball style of Dodgeball. Once you beat one opponent, there will always be another who is willing to challenge you!
Currently, we are building the game for a Windows/Mac/Linux release, but console play is definitely on our radar.
