Makes sense, fair enough ^^
Sorry Jmickle. Ma'pa di'nt go in fr all dat fancy book learnin' ¬_¬ Ignorant bugger.
Anyway. I do like the smoke screen I'm not disputing that at all. I just think if there were a random 3 that the box would cycle through it would be more interesting for the player. Of course it would get boring but hey if they all last the same amount of time then it wouldn't matter no?

It's important that the feedback is consistent. Otherwise, players will assume something is different.

I got a smoke could and guy A came out. I got a beam of light and guy B came out. I got another beam of light but Guy A came out! What's going on‽
Could be a problem.

That sounds like silly reasoning. Why would a player have a panic attack if their cloud of smoke wasn't there when Mr. A came out? It's not a game breaking affect. Just a nice little quirk to the game. I understand your reasoning. But it just doesn't seem valid, people will not have a fit over something random. They aren't going to pause the game and sit there for 2 hours thinking 'Okay so it was a beam of light, but guy B came out .... I must call the media!! This is an outrage.'

To me, a more important reason is just that it would require three sprites to be created where one would suffice.

smoke. there are two really good unrefutable points: 1) its less work to make 1 2) it wont confuse the player
players WILL search for the meaning of random effects.
but either way, its LESS WORK

To throw my 50 cent in the discussion, I could imagine different effects working, if they weren't random. E.g. if Sexy Hiker always had the same effect and the dude from Gunlimb a different one that also stays consistent. It would be neat, but is another point on the IB:Perfect World Edition list, because the 'more work' aspect is still a valid argument.
So for now, I think some kind of bursting effect for all characters will do.

Inconsistent feedback does not upset players. It confuses them, as they try to find meaning between the different animations (when it turns out there is none). It's bad game design, and it's not going to happen.

I like Rostiger's idea more than my own. Each character having their own summon animation would be really cool.
But speaking of (Going off topic slightly) Is there any plans for the player characters to enter the battlefield in a certain way? You know like each has their own way of getting in. Like the fish girl comes up form the bottom of the screen as if there was water. Or jumps out a puddle? (sorry I know this isn't items I was just curious)
Soul I understand it isn't going to happen. I knew that from the start. I can't even remember why I began questioning it. Oh well XP

A little out of left field -- this is both a stage and item suggestion, but the item suggestion seems much more amusing to me.
If any of you have played "I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!!1", have you seen the ASCII Snakes? If so, using them as TIGBox support that spawns and starts moving as awkwardly as it does sounds like a pretty neat way to implement quick area control in an item.
