I made a short looping song intro for my game today, then I realized it sounded way too old to fit my game, so I had some fun and made a little mockup for it, too. Thanks for the tracker tutorial, pgil! It taught me everything I needed to make the song. It's basic, but I'm sure I'll keep working at it. Sound effects will probably come naturally when my ear is better trained, I guess. =)

Hey, I think it's cool! It would also fit for the push start screen of an 8 bit game in my opinion

Hey that's pretty cool.  It really does fit a spooky 8-bit game.  I kind of want to play that mockup too...

To make it sound more 16-bit, you could try some different samples for the instruments.  Strings and horns and flutes instead of square and triangle waves.  If you look around you can find free sample packs which will be high enough quality for this style of game.  The samples directory at scene.org is a good resource (the Ensoniq and Proteus* packs should have a lot of useful stuff).  Also, this thread at chipuisc.org has links to all kinds of sample resources for trackers.

*Edit: Proteus, not Eroteus.  Typing is hard.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.
And thanks for the samples, pgil! I downloaded a bunch of them, and bookmarked the page for later.
I'm trying to train my ears now. I can't even recognize simple major intervals. This is rough, hahah.
