Hi everyone,
We’re an R&D team from China, and we’d like to introduce our product, the Depth-VR Virtual Holographic System. Depth VR is a 3D system that uses head tracking to deliver an unparalleled 3D experience. We’ve done a huge amount of optimizations to traditional head-tracking systems, so using Depth VR, you can experience something as realistic as a holographic image.

(Watch our demo on Youtube:

)

Depth VR is made up of two hardware components, an infrared tracking device placed on top of your display, and special glasses for accurate head tracking.

*Glasses: 3D glasses equipped with an infrared-emitting device. The glasses have two versions of Color Cast 3D (for general display devices) and polarized 3D.

*Infrared Tracking Device: placed on top of the display, and able to track glasses within 0.1 meters to 3 meters distance, tracking adjusts the display in real-time so users can see 3D objects from different angles. With even the tiniest head movements, you will see different angles and details of the scene.

Depth VR now supports multiple 3D engines (Unity 3D/OpenGL/DX/Ogre) and has a very easy to use SDK for developers. It is also cross-platform, supporting Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu.

We’ll be launching our project on Kickstarter on November 19th, and would love to have your support. Let us know if you have any questions or comments about Depth VR.

Cool as fuck, if the demo is legit.

I've seen something like this being done before with the assistance of a Wiimote strapped to your head, although of course a proper setup would be much better.

Thanks for your feedback! We're glad you like DepthVR. The demo is a video of DepthVR's current capabilities; our Kickstarter campaign video should be even cooler though! Let us know if you have any questions, we'd be happy to answer them.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for your feedback and interest in Depth VR. We wanted to let you know that our Kickstarter campaign has just launched (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ncf/depth-vr-3d-world-jumping-out-of-your-screen) and that as an early bird backer you can get a considerable discount. Thank you again for your support, and please let us know if you have any more questions.

It looks good, but as Sik mentioned above, i'm pretty sure I saw this same technique years ago with the wii remote..

I also just saw this while looking for the reversal wii remote, I just hope it doesn't mess with your kickstarter :S http://mynintendonews.com/2014/07/03/nintendo-patents-eye-tracking-device-which-enables-3d-on-a-2d-display/#comment-1106826

@Sik & o0Corps0o -

@DepthVR - Why did you end up developing your own infrared tracker instead of using ( another ) Leap Motion? Couldn't you simply attach a Leap Motion to the top of the monitor and track the glasses using the Image API? Just curious Smiley

Or just use TrackIR which does exactly that.

As cool as this looks, it's got a lot working against it: 1) It's basically a mash-up of already existing technology. 2) There's already been a bunch of VR kickstarter projects -- at least one of which currently seems likely to get sued for not delivering. 3) Existing games don't work with this system, so you've got a chicken and egg problem. Consumers won't buy it because there aren't compatible games, and devs won't spend time making games for it because there isn't a consumer base.

If this had been two years ago, you might have cleaned up on Kickstarter, but that was then and this is now. Sad
