This relates to full-time devs. It's going to sound dumb as shit, but here we go.

Get dressed. No seriously, put on a god-damn shirt or something. Stop sitting around in your pajamas all day like me.

I actually got dressed today. Productivity went through the roof, and I'm nearly done my game. I also shovelled snow outside because Canada. I probably would have left it otherwise.

I've also found that if you're sick, sitting around in your pajamas all day doesn't help you. But actually getting dressed makes you better somehow I DON'T KNOW WHY.

Anyone else had the same experiences? I don't get it. Like some psychological switch thing in your brain is like oh hey he's all dressed for success so let's get some shit done or whatever.

Pajamas make you lazy and sleepy by design, duh!

No, seriously, I think this relates to everyone to some extent, getting dressed is kinda like the morning coffee, or uplifting motivating music. It's like a ritual for leaving resting time behind. Not a dumb advice at all.

I don't know about fancy business clothing, that just makes me uncomfortable, but pajamas definitely aren't the way to go for me Smiley

As I entered university as a mature student, my job had inculcated me into the idea that a tie was a necessary component to a shirt.
It did get some odd looks.

That said, it's all about your "normal" experience. It's a ritual, and it's entirely psychosomatic. For some people it's getting dressed, other people it's having a shower, others, it's just coffee. Whatever it is that puts you in that frame of mind.

Some people may also change to lighter clothes even if they aren't technically pijamas.

That said, take the advice further, the general suggestion is to recreate the same behavior as if you were going to an office as much as possible (even better if your work space is a dedicated room as opposed to some random part of the house, some even suggest to go work outside your house if you can). This makes your mind behave like it's at work and not just rambling around at home.

Yep, having separate places for various activities helps you concentrate on them. Working at the same desk that you play games/procrastinate at can easily lead to your mind straying off the goal at hand.

This actually applies equally to resting. You can fall asleep easier if you have a dedicated bedroom that you only ever sleep in as opposed to a couch, or a bed that you sometimes watch TV/do whatever on.

Of course sometimes you just have to make do with what you have, I cannot afford to do gamedev in a dedicated space.

pajamas are both luxurious and sensual, essa, you are missing out by not swaddling yourself in their silken embrace every night. if my skin is not clothed in the intimate confine of a loose, soft cloth fabric that extends throughout my body then why would i even bother sleeping?

also yes

They achieved in making the child version of me smile Tears of Joy

Also pajamas are swag. Like just the pants. I don't wanna wear just briefs all day, too tight. And it's winter and I live in Canada, so too cold. Pants are dumb without underwear so no. Naked is a no go.

So, pajamas. Nice warm pajama pants.

Pajamas are awesome. Not for work, though.
Dressing up can certainly help you to get into work and "really feel it".
