There needs to be an obvious warm-up animation so other players know to get out of the way.
True enough.
Would adding the funny star-spark charge-up things onto this sprite do?

the shrinking circle from the original game should suffice

Cool. I'm going to be working on this much more in the next few weeks now that finals are over.

the gun could use a bit of an upward motion, shoot a lazer that large would produce a bit more recoil than that.

To the best of my knowledge, a laser of any size shouldn't produce noticeable recoil  Huh?
I could well be wrong (I'm no particle physicist) but I think lasers are pretty low on drama (barring the shiny beam within an atmosphere  Wink)

It's not a laser though.
What it is is a Plasma cannon, and Plasma IS a physical object, and the speed at which it's being propelled (see: hitscan) would make a fairly large amount of recoil.

A laser, however, would make no recoil, unless the method of generating that laser would entail some recoil in and of itself.

I have to point out: It's a 2D beat 'em up where punching someone can send them into the stratosphere. Lazers can recoil as much as they damn well want.

Ah, I stand corrected. Should've played the game first  Wink

@JoeBloggs: Very true, and I didn't mean to imply there should be even a tip of the hat to real-world physics. Was just an aside; ultimately it should all be whatever seems most appealing  Smiley
