oh man, I never knew a thread like this existed, otherwise I would have introduced myself when I first got my account!
alright, well my name is Tuan

Turning 21 soon and I live on the east coast of the US. Hmmm, well the first game I played was none other than
Super Mario Bros.
Then there was
Street Fighter II that got me into fighting games.

My family was very poor although we still managed to purchase every console starting from the NES. Yes, EVEN THE VIRTUAL BOY! Still, we didn't have the luxury of buying a lot of games, so we borrowed a bunch from other friends and also played demo discs way way longer than we should have. After the release of the PS1 and games like X-men vs. Street Fighter, Final Fantasy VIII, Gran Turismo, and Metal Gear Solid, I was officially hooked on video games. Coincidentally, my friends started to hate me because I stopped playing outside with them. Good times.
I am well-rounded with every genre except anything involving Strategy. I'm not really a strategic guy, and while I am well-rounded, I don't specialize in any genre.
I am striving to be a game designer, either working for a large game company like Capcom, Namco/Bandai, Bioware, Unreal, Arc Systems Works, and some more I can't think of, or establishing a company of my own. I started seriously pursuing game design back in 2008 when I realized I go beyond the "idea" guy. I enjoy detailing every aspect of a game, from the general game mechanics down to how many animations a character should have and when they should play. The design document I'm writing for my long-term project has reached about 50 pages and it's only half-way done. Design documents for some smaller projects I worked on are about 30 or more. They say if it's in the game, put it in the design doc. I take that statement to heart, HA.
My plots tend to be quite robust and is arguably on a Hideo Kojima level. Makes sense since he was my idol and helped me start this path to game design, hehe. As of now however, I don't have a game designer to look up to. I want to make a name of myself, designing games the way I want to. I always stay positive, no matter what happens to me. You can't achieve anything without a little faith in yourself after all.
I've only officially release 2 games so far.
A twitch-based RPG made with RPG Maker VX

And a rhythm-based puzzle game you can play at Newgrounds

I worked as a game designer and level designer for an iPhone game starting around February. It was called Animus and was actually an idea of my own, but I adapted it into an iPhone game.

Had most of the design doc done. It was supposed to be a Metroid-vania style game but with intuitive touch controls similar to the ones found in Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword. The project, as of May, has been cancelled because the leader, also acting as the 3D Artist, became too busy to work on the project any further.
Also worked as game designer for a flash game called Last Line, also my own idea ^^. The screenshot below is of the most recent prototype. Yeah, that's Noel from Blazblue, HAHA.

Last Line is an action tower defense game, where the player controls a one-man army, instead of an army of many units. I had a very talented programmer on my side, but the project has been halted because we lacked a good artist. We had one for a while but he did a TERRIBLE job using the references I provided and turned out generic sci-fi artwork. The programmer has stopped contacting me and I think he's given up on trying to find an artist...
Finally, my latest endeavor, making an Accessible Fighting game that anyone can get into. You can find the details here:
http://tagproto.blogspot.com/I'm going to community college after withdrawing from a university (too much money). I'm contemplating whether I should still pursue a degree, or save some money by taking classes relevant to game design while working on my portfolio.
Nice to meet everyone!
