Hi, my name is lambomang. Well, obviously that's not my real name Tongue
I'm an on and off contributor to Kotaku Australia (more off than on at the moment due to general business and life unorganisedness Tongue, and I like games. Like, really like games.

What made me like games, I hear you ask? Well, it all started back when I was 3. My dad had the game Shockwave Assualt and a joystick, and I'd sit on his lap and move the joystick around while he used the keyboard. I don't think I was actually doing anything, because it was a 1 player game, but hey, I was having fun.

When I turned five my aunt gave me the kids point'n'click adventure game Freddi Fish: The Case of the Missing Kelp Seeds, which I enjoyed immensely and played quite a few times.

My mum used to be a teacher and she was homeschooling me and my siblings. She didn't really approve of video games, calling them brain wasting things. So, there always had to be an educational aspect to the games she would allow me to play. She bought me SimMania for Kids, which came with SimAnt, SimTown, SimSafari, SimPark, SimTunes and Widget Workshop. I played those quite a lot too, but I think SimTown was the one I played the most, because I didn't have to pay for any of the buildings and I could make my own characters to live in the towns. Some of the games didn't work, saying they needed to run in 256 colour mode, and I had no idea what that meant. It was around then that I started getting into computers seriously, learning how to do stuff with them, just so I could figure out how to play these games in 256 colour mode. I eventually did find out, and by then a spark had been light that wouldn't easily be put out.

Then one day I bought Sim City 3000 Unlimited, and it had an offer where you could get another game for free ($5 for postage and handling). And Need for Speed High Stakes was one of the games on offer. And Need for Speed High Stakes is the game I got. I had sooooo much fun playing it. I wasn't that good at it to start off with, but as I kept getting better and better, I enjoyed it more and more. I never finished it though, mostly just doing quick races instead of the campaign.

Racing games have been my most favourite game genre ever since then.

When I was older, I'd used to play all the demos on the discs from PC magazines, starting from around when Crysis was about to come out. I've spent quite a lot of time in some demos (specifically Crysis and Batman:AA) but didn't end up buying them until recently.

I've been studying a Bachelor of IT (Computer Studies) part time since I was 15, but will be transferring to a Bachelor of Interactive Entertainment (Game Programming) next year, which will be fun :D I've been messing around with game making for about a year now, but I've only ever finished two games. I used Game Maker and Construct Classic for those games, but I have dabbled in XNA too.

I want to start up my own game studio, and want to have a focus on telling stories in games, as well as making them fun.

You enjoy Freddi Fish.

You remember Freddi Fish.

You instantly have won my respect.

(We need more games like the Humongous Entertainment SpyFox and Pajama Sam series)

My name's James I've been developing games on and off for quite literally as long as I can remember. One of my earliest memories is typing in the code for 'Light Cycles' from one of those game code listing books into an Oric I.

1MHz CPU and 16Kb RAM, baby

I didn't really do it seriously until around 2006-2009, when I developed a few moderately successful Flash games. Real-life and responsibilities eventually got in the way and it all fell to the sidelines, along with my electric guitar, squash racket, and chemistry set.

However, late last year I had to do a bit of Java development for work, which sparked a newfound interest in coding. I was soon relearning what I had forgotten, making crappy little games and occasionally entering Ludum Dare.

So here I am now: average coder, terrible art maker person and worse musician, but looking forward to both giving and getting feedback/assistance to/from the TS community.

Hey peepz, my name is Raul and im a budding game designer, concept artist and graphic designer from Puerto Rico. Here are a few examples of my art:

Born 1985, been gaming since 1989. My first console was the NES, and i've gamed on many other consoles, almost every single one from Nintendo, Sega, Sony and Micrsoft though I do not own them all. A few offbeat ones are the NeoGeo Pocket and TurboGrafx 16. Would have been cool to game on Atari, Commodore, NEC consoles but they were beyond my reach as a child. My entry into the PC gaming world ocurred on 1998 with C&C, Age of Empires and Starcraft. Its no wonder they are among my favorites.

Speaking of favorites, and following in the spirit of some of the posts in the thread, i've prepared a little board to show some of the top games which have had an influence on me since I was a wee little lad up to my current 27 years:

Would have loved to cram some more stuff, but alas, file size and image length will just keep on going up and up and up.....Kudos if you can identify each of the games there!

There are a few games from the last generations that I can say are pretty awesome, but the list gets shorter as time moves on. Whether its becuase of being partial to old-school stuff or maybe as I get older, things change, I really can't say. Maybe a bit inbetween. Or maybe the game industry just traded depth for cutting edge visuals.

That aside. My interest in TIG source is the community, the games, and the opportunity to not only showcase my own creations, but watch in awe as creators take a concept from zero, to a playable, enjoyable thing. Keep on designing and gaming!  Cave Story

Hey there, I'm Forstride (I normally go by TDWP_FTW, but I decided to sign up with my "developer name").

I'm mainly a designer/artist, and for that reason, I use Game Maker for my projects, as I don't actually know any programming languages.  Tongue  My main passion is environmental/level design, both graphically, and just general design.

I've been gaming since I was 5 or so, and my favorite game of all time is Banjo-Kazooie (N64).  I love platformers, both 2D and 3D, and I hope to someday make a platformer that will be remembered by many.

I'm currently working on a 2D platformer with the tentative title "The Wanderer."  It focuses heavily on ambiance, and sight-seeing for the player, while still having some difficulty.  I'll be making a devlog topic eventually, but here's a little teaser screenshot for the time being:

Hi everybody.  I'm an aspiring game developer from Canada.  I've been playing games most of my life, I think I got my first taste of programming with Dark Forces II modding, and after my first real CS course in high school I knew game development was the life for me.  Scraping together a few hours a week after my day job isn't satisfying me, I'd like to start taking my game making hobby more seriously.  To that end, I'm going to force myself to polish, finish, and release a game this year.

Hi, I'm Joseph.  I got into gaming in the early nineties.  First NES, then SNES, a little Sega Genesis, and then PC gaming, mostly the id stuff.  Anyway, I went to college and studied compsci and now I've started writing Android games.

Well now how to start?

I am Sam (not Samuel) and I have played games all my life. I did at one point pursue it as a career going about it all proper I studied Gameplay Design and Production at Staffordshire University but quit 6 months down the line.

I absolutely adored seeing how games were developed from start to finish, I learnt this process when I studied Games Development at College.

My first encounter with the gaming world started with a Sega Mega Drive (Sonic The Hedgehog 2) and I started to progress backwards, the next console I got was Commodore 64, then a Atari 2600 and a Spectrum ZX.

Enough about my personal gaming life (sorry to bore you Tongue) and on to my development side. I have never created an entire fully working (or partially working) game. I instead created levels and fake teaser trailers for games that don't exist. I can use off-the-shelf engines, Unreal Engine 3, Crytek Engine and the Source Engine, not so well the Source engine but I can use it none the less. My main skills (can I call it that) is lighting, level design and 3D modelling.

Here is some of my work in chronological order and everything :D

First with college, this was my Final Major Project you had to create a teaser trailer...
I tried my best and when I look back now I can see HUUUGGGEEEE room for improvement.

I did model and design many things inbetween these videos but I either lost the data from not backing up and most of my online backups were on fucking Megaupload... Fuck you FBI!

This is low poly skip modelled for my Introduction to 3D Modelling 1A Module

And here is a Multiplayer CTF map I created from scratch using a lot of built in resources on the UT3 Engine, learn shit tons about kismet and yes the water kills you (oops) and there was a bug I couldn't quite get right where the water reflects bullets??? :S

Sorry for the long post, but I tried to be brief Sad

Yup. I also grew up on Spyfox, Freddie the Fish, Putt Putt, Sims games, and I was home schooled. Good stuff. I have been wondering why I never hear anyone talk about the Humongous games. They are very good, so I am happy to see a shout out for them.

@SIGVATAR as someone who I believe has been banned once before and now is quite active on this forum who seems completely willing to speak his mind even when inappropriate you are in a lovely position to offer some concrete details as to why you just said that. For someone who is on the fence about this whole thing or for the newcomers care to shed any light on your experiences?
