Hey!

I always wanted to make indie videogames but I never finish anything. Trying to finally change that, starting small. Puzzlescript looks amazing!  Gomez

I'm in my late 20s, live in Vienna, Austria and do graphic design stuff otherwise.

My name is Jonathan and I'm from Toronto, ON, Canada. I started gaming when I was about 3 years old when my family bought a Famicom for themselves. Being so young, I had no idea what I was doing. Shrug My first serious attempt at getting into gaming was with the SNES and Game Boy. To this day, I've stuck with Nintendo consoles and handhelds, though I've also have (or had) a Game Gear, PS1 and PS3 as well. I am also a PC gamer; it started with SimCity 2000 and now I (like most people) have a massive Steam backlog.

Here is a list of some of my most favourite games of all time:

  • SimCity 4 Rush Hour
  • The Sims
  • Mario Paint
  • Secret of Mana
  • Mother 3
  • The Binding of Isaac
  • Populous: The Beginning
  • Spore Galactic Adventures
  • Ni no Kuni
  • Cave Story Cave Story

On the game dev side of things, I've been working on game as an indie for about 2 years now (since finishing grad school). I also did some developing as a hobby in high school and some as part of the game dev program during my undergrad. when I started coding, it was on a graphing calculator; I then moved on QuickBASIC, where I programmed my first game: Battling Faces. It involved a bunch of ASCII smileys shooting each other with asterisks. Tongue After QuickBASIC I moved on to Game Maker. Today, I mostly use GameMaker:Studio to develop my games, with the occasional C++ code for libraries to extend Studio's functionality.

Aside from coding, I also compose music in OpenMPT and Sonar and dabble in pixel art (the latter is a work in progress).

Here is a list of games I've developed:

  • Gonna Catcha - a retro arcade-style game about reaping spirits
  • dot.Market a simple business sim made for the LOWREZJAM
  • Rise & Fall (as part of a team) - A Roman and an Egyptian shooting projectiles at each other to restore their artifacts
  • Fodder Cannon - two guys shooting minions at each other in space

I have a devblog here: blog.quadolorgames.com. I've been meaning to get it cleaned up, but I haven't had the time.  Sad

Howdy all,

I don't read many forums, but I'm glad to have stumbled upon this one.  I make games as an entrepreneur as well as a personal hobby, and I specialize in local multiplayer games.  I've made a handful of single-player titles, but the games I get most excited about are the ones that let me scream and laugh alongside my friends and family in the same room.  I also create some professional bridge sims, in case that's of interest to anyone here.

Hi, I also make games, but I'm a pixel artist by day.

I'm currently working on Super Galaxy Squadron, which is on Kickstarter and Greenlight, and FTL Remastered, which is sort of on hiatus but I'll probably get back to it eventually.

And if you like pixel art and/or need an artist for whatever reason, here's my portfolio.

Hi I'm Matthias.

I come from Germany, am 28years old, in my last week of studying economics and only I started working on games recently.

I fell in love with computer games back when I encountered StarCraft and FF8 (and FF7 right after completing that) and never stopped playing.. today I have less time than back in school, but I still enjoy my daily session of Nuclear Throne and Hearthstone.

When I was a kid, I liked drawing stuff, maybe that's why I started off with working on pixel art now. Right now I'm basically at the start of my journey, spending a few hours here and there in my spare time, but I'm on my way to make "making games" a greater part of my life. I'm looking forward to connect to you.

See you around!

Hey everyone,

I'm Andrew, and I've been enjoying checking out all the games in the Devlog and playtesting forums. Some really high quality games around here!

I've been trying to break into the game industry for over 7 years now. Started my own business, Cosmic Logic inc. when I was 26, was just trying to support other indie devs, sort of like a indie publisher. Was unable to raise any capital, and most of the small teams I formed fell apart.

Was able to put out a XBLIG in 2011 with a small team, in which I acted as the producer. The game, Doc Logic (

), made no money, but I'm still really proud of it.

After that, I realized I needed to learn programming, and be more hands on with the game. I've been working on my new game, Shutter, using Unity. Hope to release it this year.

Shutter devlog: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=42463.0

Peace!

Hey everybody, I'm Victor game developer from Brazil!
My developer pseudonym is Hobnail Studios and like most here I'm trying to earn a living doing something I love.
Frankly I'm a little scared though, most of the projects here seem light years ahead of what I'm doing, but hopefuly I'll survive :-)

Cheers!

Howdy all! My name is Aiden Bains, and I like to make games.

Here I can pinpoint the exact moment when I realised that socialising with real human beings wasn't for me, and I would need to retreat to my isolated room, forever to toil away at game creation.

Nah, but in all seriousness I've been interested in game design for as long as I can remember :D

My primary passion is in level design, but being an indie dev has taught me to dabble in most areas of game development. I'm also an undergraduate in Computer Science at the University of Bath, meaning my programming skills aren't too shabby, if I do say so myself Smiley

I normally try to stay away from forums (I find them far too addictive and time-consuming), but I'll try to post on here every once and a while as I really like what I've seen so far of the community. If anyone is interested in more frequent updates on my game dev activities, they can follow me on Twitter @AidenBainsGames.

Hello, I'm Nathan aka Duhprey.

I've been meaning to introduce myself for a while... and since I've been thinking about starting a devlog in earnest, figured I'd start with an introduction.

I've been making games for a long time, started around the age of 10.  Which was more than a few years ago.  I've always wanted to be indie, even before that was really a thing (not a hipster, I swear).  I always knew I didn't want to go into the regular industry (although who knows, that could have been my biggest mistake).  I wanted to do my own thing.  The trade off has been relative obscurity and not very many releases Smiley  Too hard when you have a real job I suppose.

In any event, I started working with Unity back in 2009 and started making infinitely more games to completion (e.g., 1 thing).

Here's a screenshot from the game we made back in 2012.

I even started a company with my friend to make money off of it (didn't really happen).  http://www.longshotstudios.com  So now we're trying to take our indie selves seriously and actually finish things *and* try to make some money at them (or do contract work, which is much easier to get paid at).

Looking forward to participating in this community more now.

Nathan/Duhprey.

Hi!

I introduced myself once, but since that was a long time ago (and I didn't post much) I thought I'd reintroduce myself. My name is John, and I'm Duhprey's partner in crime. I also worked on Longshot (and helped start Longshot Studios). I'm also going to be posting in the devlog alongside him, so here goes.

I've been working on games since I think around 6, making a simple game of tag on my dad's old Commodore 64. I used to work in mainly C++, but I did some university projects in XNA. I started using Unity when Duhprey introduced me to it, and fell in love with it's style (and use of C#) almost immediately.

Anyway, I'm hoping to get involved in the indie community much more, and am looking forward to making more games!

Hello I'm Fredrick Conception,

although sometimes listed as Mr. Conception. I'm 18 years old working on my first game "Dream Knights" A 3D collect-a-thon platformer that mixes gameplay examples like "Super Mario 64" and "Zelda OOT". (Also has 4 player co-op!)

I came into TIG source to do a [WIP] thread for the game. Then eventually show a kickstarter for it. Hope you all like it!

Hey everyone!

I'm a hobbyist/indie game developer currently working on completing my first game. My main skills are in the programming realm, but I'm slowly and surely edging towards doing more game design. That said, I enjoy both thinking about the design of games and actually making them.

My first notable exposure to video games is probably back in the 90s. It's was a top down adventure game called Shadow Keep. While I was having fun, I was 5 back then and did not fully understand what was going on with the story and conversations happening in the game. But I remember that all the weaponry, monsters, labyrinth, pirates, and vast open world kept me interested. Hey, the open world idea already existed way back then!

My gaming history from there on is filled mostly with the fantasy, adventure, and strategy types. I do enjoy both western and eastern games and appreciate the unique characteristics each brings to the table. In terms of quality, I tend to look for games with depth either mechanics or story. I also appreciate human generated content a lot and tend to shy away from excessive automatic (eg. procedural) generated content.

Here are some of the titles that I enjoyed the most and feels very special to me:

- Xenogears
- Suikoden II
- Baldur's Gate II
- Final Fantasy IX
- Civilization Series
- Journey

I started working on my first game from ground up, several years ago. It was doing okay, but at some point lost its momentum as a project. It was a team effort, but I'm partly to be blamed for keeping it hidden from the outside world. I guess that's why I'm here. I decided to pick up the project again myself, getting it done, and at the same time share it with the like-minded awesome people here Smiley

Check out a demo of the game I'm working on here:
http://organickgames.blogspot.com/p/dropit-demo.html

It's a semi-casual game about dropping hammers that tests your timing skills to the extreme!

And if by any chance you are curious why I decided to revive this project, I wrote up a quick blog post for it:
http://organickgames.blogspot.com/2014/08/finishing-abandoned-game-project.html

Looking forward to talk more about game dev with all of you.
Peace!

Hello everyone!

My name's Richard, and I'm an aspiring game designer. I'm studying computer science and film at Northwestern right now, with the hopes of learning as much about interactive media (read: video games) as possible while I'm here. StrengthsQuest tells me my number one strength is ideation, which I often think is true - I'm not the best programmer or the best artist (yet), but I love to come up with ideas and slowly try to make them realities, which is why I think the game design side of the medium will be best for me. I tend to be very focused on storytelling in games (which means I'm often disappointed by a lot of AAA titles), but I'm excited to learn as much as possible about the art and challenge of designing just the raw game portion of the medium - creating fun from scratch, if you will.

I'll be in the Chicago area at least for the next three years, but I have no idea what'll come after that. If anyone in the area wants to meet up, team up, or just talk games, please get in touch! I hope to spend at least the next year or so making as many small games or game demos as possible, to get comfortable not only with the basics of game design, but the process of quickly putting together something playable. I'll probably be using the forums to log my process on those as I start working on them (including one that I'm already close to having playable!). There are plenty of bigger ideas I would love to pursue, but I just don't think I have the time/talent to really attack them right now, and I'd rather wait until I can (semi) confidently say "I can do this," or at least "I can make this a priority."

My favorite games (off the top of my head, at this moment right now, probably forgetting obvious ones) include, but aren't limited to BioShock, Ocarina of Time, Mirror's Edge, Limbo and Kentucky Route Zero. I like films made by Wes Anderson and the Coen brothers, and books by Cormac McCarthy and CS Lewis. If you want to see some things that some friends and I write about games, check out gamewi.se,

Anyways, if anyone has any general advice for someone that's sort of just getting started, feel free to send it my way - lord knows I could use it. Or, like I said, if you're in the Chicago area (or even at NU), let's work together some time!

I'm looking forward to learning a lot here and maybe I can help too, one day.

I got started with video games because of Final Fantasy 7, Suikodeon, Thousand Arms and other great rpgs titles from the ps1. I can only do basics games now but hopefully I can make my own rpg in the near future!

Hi, my name’s Matt. I am a game developer currently working with my wife on a voxel based city builder/survival game called The Kindred.

I’ve been coding and designing my own games since I first got my C64 back in the mid 80's (i guess that makes me old Concerned). I finally have the time to make a larger game for release and I've given up the corporate programming job last year to give this my full attention.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.  Smiley

Hi, got an account here a bit ago, but figured it was time I joined in a bit!

My name's Jon and I make games! I'm sort of a general developer, but I guess I probably fit into the Designer/Programmer bracket. I'm interested in experimental gameplay, new gameplay experiences and the potential for games as a storytelling medium. Also a big believer in the possibilities for games as an educational tool.

My background's in Physics and Philosophy, but for the past year and a half I've been making games full time non-stop as part of a course at the NFTS, with a couple of placements as a designer here and there, along with some freelance work.

Currently working on my year-long graduation project, gearing up for a solid 10/15 minute demo to show off at Eurogamer at the end of September (there's so much to do, haha).

Essentially, it's a third person/first person photography game based around memories set in a surreal park; using polaroids to manipulate the world around you in order to piece back together fragments of broken memories. It's played on PC, using a phone/tablet/touch device as a controller/second screen with some interesting interactions between the two.

Hopefully I'll post some stuff up to show soon!

Looking forward to settling in a bit =).

Cheers.

Hi everyone!

We are three guys working together on Interloper! Interloper is an intense real-time strategy game about alien tribes vying for control over a lush, newly discovered world. You'll probably see another post in the Townhall come up soon, with videos! Kiss

We're all from the Netherlands, specifically Utrecht. Our office is located in the Dutch Game Garden, where a variety of indie developers have offices to work from (e.g. Abbey Games, Vlambeer, Digital Dreams etc).

As a small independent studio we don’t just strive to innovate, but also to provide quality in every aspect of development.

Thanks and hope to see you around! Smiley

I think it would be nice to introduce myself as I hope to participate around here more often. My name is Adal, I'm originally from Italy but I currently live in the UK. When I was younger, I wanted to become a game designer, but that wasn't a realistic prospect at the time in Italy, so at the university I became interested in Human-Computer Interaction and research. Long story short, ten years later I find myself working as a post-doc HCI researcher currently focusing on 3D interaction. In October I'll start working as a lecturer in game technologies at another British university. So things seem to have come full circle! ..not yet, until I publish my first game. Since my prospects of saving mankind through research on 3D interaction seem very slim! :D

Anyway, as any self-respecting academic would do, I started a while ago to build my own 3D engine :D I'm using it to build a turn-based sci-fi combat game, called The Odyssey. In short, it's a vector-graphics X-Com in space, with some RPG mechanics in the mix.

I'm amazed by the quality of the work I am seeing here, looks like I'll have lots of catching up to do!  Toast Right
