Hallo all. I'm Joe, a Games Development student from Ireland, occasionally resident in L.A. I seem to have become fairly fixated on fiddling around with turn-based strategy game mechanics, and am currently working on one which may or may not get released.
Gaming-wise, although I started with a second-hand 2600, I'm definitely a c64 child at heart. All those nights waiting for tapes to fail their load routines certainly helped twist me into the shape I am today
I'm a bit of a retro-head, and currently have not nearly enough room for my c64(natch), amiga, zx speccys(a rubber keyed 48 and a +2a), amstrad 464 & 128, n64, modded Saturn and my lovely, lovely Dreamcast.
I'm a fan of adventure games, strategy/board/cardgames and massively overreaching projects that never get done. As can be easily grasped from a cursory glance at my backlog of semi-developed, unreleased trash. A few favourite titles are Rebelstar(on the Speccy),Mad Doctor(for the '64), Disgaea, Laser Squad, The Longest Journey and blah blah etc. I'm also a semi-professional (read: sometimes people remember to pay me) artist, and a keen amateur (read: not good enough to ask for money)musician and occasional writer.
My goal as a designer? To bring back sharp, fun strategy games to the pc. Taking stuff like Rebelstar and The Gold Box rpgs and putting a retro-modern, streamlined spin on them. As well as trying to push the style in some fresh directions while I'm at it. If I can get vaguely close to any of that, I'll die a happy bunny
I've been reading TIGSource on-and-off for quite some time now, so thought it was about time I dropped in here to say hello. Hello
