Oh wow, I never saw this.
Oh well, it's not too late.
I don't have pictures or anything.
I don't make games, (I have no idea how, and have no programming background) but my friend introduced me to indie games/the indie community, and I thought "Hey!  Why not?".   And all of you are nice people.

Anyway, Favorite games have to be most of the ones I played as a kid [N64!  It was all we had], and some that I've gotten on the PC.
#1 Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time.
We'd always watch my mom play this when I was little, and it was the best!  I started playing it, and it turned out that I was better than her!  And so began a lifelong hobby.  The same happened with
#2, 3, 4:  Super mario World, Donkey Kong 64, and Super Metroid [Though I played the SNES games with my dad instead of my mom].

5:  Borderlands.
This was the first game that I ever bought for PC, and also the first I bought using steam.  Not to mention it's a great game anyways.  Fun for coop!
6: Bioshock.
Come on.  Don't act surprised.
Note:  This list is not in any particular order.
So yeah.  That's me, a simple high-school Junior.
Also, the friend is Bood_War.

Hey look!  My blog's gone again!  Ain't that somethin?

Name: Jasmine
Location: England
Born: 1985
Special Skills: Mathematics and Physics programming; AI; Numerical Methods; Simulation; Procedural Generation

Background
I was first exposed to programming in around 1989 by my older brother while I was just a toddler. He was required to submit some programming for his computer class for high school, and he showed me on our ZX spectrum the two commands he'd learned which started me off: PRINT and GOTO. He regularly liked to try and teach me the things he'd learned in class at high school, and surprisingly often I picked them up.

At that very young age, I started to take interest in computers, because I was intuitively aware of their ability to simulate things and model the dynamical systems that govern the world around us. (AKA forecasting how a situation will evolve. (AKA predicting the future.))

I also enjoyed the concept of games - things that are made purely for pleasures, with no ulterior motives. "What a lovely thing to make", I thought.

I was also curious about the technical side of games: not only that things so complex could be constructed, but that there were in fact people clever enough to do something so mind boggling!

I have fond memories of the games I played when I was young, and despite being interested in game design & programming, I'm not really interested in playing games at all anymore, which surprises a lot of people.

I have used various computers in my time, but not many consoles.

My education has been in mathematics and the sciences, and almost all I know about computers is what I've found out for myself by playing with them.

I've written quite a few programs over the years that I have never released, and over the past couple of years I've won several game programming competitions that have taken place online. I am quite proud of those, as they were the first time my self-learned skills have been measured against people with IT qualifications and professional experience within the field of game development.

oh man, I never knew a thread like this existed, otherwise I would have introduced myself when I first got my account!

alright, well my name is Tuan

Turning 21 soon and I live on the east coast of the US. Hmmm, well the first game I played was none other than Super Mario Bros.

Then there was Street Fighter II that got me into fighting games.

My family was very poor although we still managed to purchase every console starting from the NES. Yes, EVEN THE VIRTUAL BOY! Still, we didn't have the luxury of buying a lot of games, so we borrowed a bunch from other friends and also played demo discs way way longer than we should have. After the release of the PS1 and games like X-men vs. Street Fighter, Final Fantasy VIII, Gran Turismo, and Metal Gear Solid, I was officially hooked on video games. Coincidentally, my friends started to hate me because I stopped playing outside with them. Good times.

I am well-rounded with every genre except anything involving Strategy. I'm not really a strategic guy, and while I am well-rounded, I don't specialize in any genre.

I am striving to be a game designer, either working for a large game company like Capcom, Namco/Bandai, Bioware, Unreal, Arc Systems Works, and some more I can't think of, or establishing a company of my own. I started seriously pursuing game design back in 2008 when I realized I go beyond the "idea" guy. I enjoy detailing every aspect of a game, from the general game mechanics down to how many animations a character should have and when they should play. The design document I'm writing for my long-term project has reached about 50 pages and it's only half-way done. Design documents for some smaller projects I worked on are about 30 or more. They say if it's in the game, put it in the design doc. I take that statement to heart, HA.

My plots tend to be quite robust and is arguably on a Hideo Kojima level. Makes sense since he was my idol and helped me start this path to game design, hehe. As of now however, I don't have a game designer to look up to. I want to make a name of myself, designing games the way I want to. I always stay positive, no matter what happens to me. You can't achieve anything without a little faith in yourself after all.

I've only officially release 2 games so far.

A twitch-based RPG made with RPG Maker VX

And a rhythm-based puzzle game you can play at Newgrounds

I worked as a game designer and level designer for an iPhone game starting around February. It was called Animus and was actually an idea of my own, but I adapted it into an iPhone game.

Had most of the design doc done. It was supposed to be a Metroid-vania style game but with intuitive touch controls similar to the ones found in Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword. The project, as of May, has been cancelled because the leader, also acting as the 3D Artist, became too busy to work on the project any further.

Also worked as game designer for a flash game called Last Line, also my own idea ^^. The screenshot below is of the most recent prototype. Yeah, that's Noel from Blazblue, HAHA.

Last Line is an action tower defense game, where the player controls a one-man army, instead of an army of many units. I had a very talented programmer on my side, but the project has been halted because we lacked a good artist. We had one for a while but he did a TERRIBLE job using the references I provided and turned out generic sci-fi artwork. The programmer has stopped contacting me and I think he's given up on trying to find an artist...

Finally, my latest endeavor, making an Accessible Fighting game that anyone can get into. You can find the details here: http://tagproto.blogspot.com/

I'm going to community college after withdrawing from a university (too much money). I'm contemplating whether I should still pursue a degree, or save some money by taking classes relevant to game design while working on my portfolio.

Nice to meet everyone!

Hi my name is John Urquhart, I'm a Christian and the creator of a program called Eon.

Here is a passport photo of me.

I've played a large number of mmos including eve online, wow, lol, also other games like ultima online, basically amost mmos I like.

I also play some text based muds, zombiemud which I like the game mechanics in, its definately a base for a mmo if you were creating one.

I live in Australia, western sydney area and its currently winter here right now, so cold.

I ended up here as notch spoke highly of tig on his website when I was finding minecraft web links to put into a minecraft panel I was creating for eon.

Screenshot of EON.

I'm currently working through themes on the internet and placing the weblinks into panels, however users of the software can reprogram the buttons themselves and send to their friends. However I'm having to program initially some panels until the program starts to be used increasingly.

Panels I most like creating are mmo themed or youtube movie trailers.

Basically program the buttons, anyone can do that, exit edit mode, click a button and it takes you to that website using default browser.

I also write literature, sketch, play computer games, try to keep up with latest technologies and like hacking, (defined as: achieving something with an absurdly low amount of resources).

thanks,

John Urquhart

Holy cow there are a lot of emoticons for this board. At any rate, sup people.

My name is Pat, I'm a 20 year old student at University of Maryland Baltimore County, in... you guessed it: Baltimore, MD. I've been playing games since I was like... 5, starting with a sega genesis (I somehow missed the whole nes/snes deal).
My favorite game character has always been good ol' sonic the hedgehog. I love that little blue guy. Anyway, I have always wanted to make games... back in early high school I dabbled in game maker and darkbasic, but didn't have the time to dedicate due to school and a short attention span. Anyway, now I have a few friends in the field that I intend to start some projects with, and I am currently working on a few independent projects of my own. I figured it would be good to jump on here to get some support, feedback, and, of course, build some hype for the games I'm working on. I'll be seeing everyone around, and hope to become an active (and successful) member of this forum..

Oh, I forgot to mention. On my personal projects I'm doing everything. But in general, I'm a comp sci/math major and consider myself to be, first and foremost, a programmer. But I love to doodle and I'm alright at pixel art. So cheers all  Toast Left Grin

Aren't you a bit young to play a game like that?!  Noir

Just kidding, when I was your age [insert bad cough and complaint about kidney stones here] my favorite game was probably Unreal... good times. Welcome to the forum. Gentleman

Howdy, my name is Jean-Edouard.
Im a 28 years old level designer/3d artist living in Lyon, close to the alps, in France.
I worked in a medium sized game company for quite a few years but I didn't want to work on the same big games over and over anymore.

I registered here mostly for the feedback and because I've been a long time lurker of the Art section.

Also I protect two kittens from harmimg themselve when Im not doing game stuff or getting beers.

Cheers.

My name's not important but I do go by 'dar' in real life... so that'll work out fairly well anywhere! Also I'm nineteen.

The first game I played is... Well the first game I remember playing is Duke Nukem 3D. My father got it when I was four years old (when it came out) and it was then that I was introduced to PC gaming (read as: gaming at all).

I grew up mostly on FPS games on PC - HL1 games, Unreal Tournament 99, 2004, Quake III, etc. etc. I did have some fun on consoles but around the time the N64 came out, I started feeling a degrading experience (for me) with the bridging to more 'advanced' console systems. I hate thumbsticks, I can't operate them at all, nor do I care to since it'll still be terribly less accurate than a mouse! Not to say some of my favorite games weren't on consoles, notably: Perfect Dark 64.

As time progressed I found myself less and less impressed with the 'innovations' in big name games and at some point started looking to independently developed games to tickle my fancy for games that weren't eating their own pride/weight in unnecessary crap. Though it was not any time recently that I started loving indie games, I can not give a good outline of when I did.

My soft spot is for FPS games of course, but I am certainly open to more. Anything from roguelikes, platformers, puzzle games, adventure games (graphical & text), etc. etc.

I have no experience in developing anything but I have enjoyed using Inform7 for interactive fiction now and again. I also have an interest in AGS and Ren'Py. But really in short, I'm not terribly creative and I'm a bloody perfectionist!

Hey everybody.

I probably should have posted here a long time ago (although no one ever told me to, suprisingly  Undecided ). Anyways my real name is Yusuf, I'm a recent college student who is studying computer science at my university.

Ever since I started programming (~5/6 years ago) I knew had a passion for making games (and coding in general). I first started programming games for my nintendo DS and was part of the PAlib community (I'm pretty sure it's dead now). Recently (~ 1 year ago) I started making flash games. I have since released two games of my own(Crops Vs. Cogs and Hue Runner) and have one commission project nearly finished.

When I'm not at my computer I'm trying to get buff... You've probably seen me at the gym doing curls with 80 27.5 lbs dumbbells Embarrassed

Hi, my name's Mark.

I got into making games by way of simulations. In school I enjoyed computer graphics classes, and was always putting simple physics engines behind the graphics demos we had to do for class. When I read an article (http://discovermagazine.com/2003/aug/feattech) in Discover about Torsten Reil's work training neural networks to control humanoid actors, I wanted to try doing that to. I ended up getting distracted half-way through learning OGRE and ended up making games instead.

I'm a software engineer, so programming isn't the hard part of making games for me. I find the game design aspects, actually making the game fun, to be much trickier. Also, art is hard, but games without art tend to work out better than games without fun.
