I'm a indie game developer (from Cape Town South Africa). I try make games with friends at a little fledgling studio called Free Lives.

I've been making games since 2007. I lean towards humorous action games pretty heavily, but I'm trying out new styles one game at a time! I've done a bit of game development for hire, really wasn't much fun (for me anyway), so I'm now instead of that I am trying to make games that I can love.

Here is a random collection of stuff I've worked on (most of it is from Jams and prototypes with friends and colleagues):

I know I'm new here, so obviously my opinion can't carry much weight, but I really love this place.

I've got a website if you want to know more. http://www.freelives.net

(Thanks for taking the time to get to know a little about me)

Hey there, I'm CrazyMLC. I'm still in High School here in the states but I love video games.
My house is overflowing with them - we have over four hundred, even as old as from the NES era. Given this, games have had a huge influence on my life.
I've always loved making art and the whole concept of games. However, I've never really learned to program. Multimedia Fusion fixed that problem for me, and I've been trying to make games since I discovered it.
I haven't made anything of real note yet but I'm hoping to change that eventually.

Hello ya'll,

My name is Bryson Whiteman! I'm from Los Angeles, CA and work as Flash developer (with a focus on games). You can check out some of my stuffs at sonofbryce.com.

I grew up on console games, heavy into Nintendo and Sega throughout my childhood. I had an NES and was addicted to Super Mario Bros, Castlevania, and Contra. When I first saw Zelda, it blew my mind. Something about the non-linearity of it, I figure. I eventually got my own copy of Zelda 2 and it's still one of my favorite games. Some more faves are Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers and the epic Super Mario Bros 3 and Battletoads.

Zelda 2 is my shit

I got a Super Nintendo early on and my mind continued to be blown. Super Mario World, Super Castlevania IV, F-Zero, Pilotwings, Zelda 3, Starfox, Super Mario Kart, Secret of Mana. Good just kept getting better! I was devoted to Nintendo but Sonic the Hedgehog changed that. I saw a commercial and got obsessed with Sonic. Finally got to play it at a friends.

Then Sonic 2 came out. By 4th grade I was begging for a Sega Genesis.

So I flipped into a Sega fan instantly. Exposed to all the great action games on Genesis. Sonic had me hooked, I dug Blue Sky's games (Ren & Stimpy and Vector-Man), X-Men, etc.

I was hardcore into Sega but became split when SNES started coming out with stuff like Donkey Kong Country. I played it to death at my cousins. Then a friend exposed me to Chrono Trigger. I was familiar with Final Fantasy, but it always looked boring to me. After getting hooked on Chrono Trigger I needed to find any RPG I could get my hands on! Super Mario RPG came out around that time and I played it to death at my cousin's.

Ok, I guess I like menu driven RPGs now...

When it came to debating the path of Saturn and PS1, it was an obvious Sega to me. I had got into Virtua Fighter and Sega was king of arcade, no contest right? Saturn was mostly about NiGHTS and Guardian Heroes to me.

I managed to get ahold of a PS1 by the time Square released FF7.

I can probly stop there? On PS1 I was into Resident Evil, anything Square, Castlevania: SotN, Parappa, Intelligent Qube is the shiet, Metal Gear Solid, etc.

Then came Dreamcast... etc etc.

During college I developed Flash games in my spare time, with my high school friend Ricky Enriquez. I had worked with him on comics in high school, and he did all the character art work for the games we were working on.

The first was Thugjacker. Initially, I wanted it to be a Castlevania style game but Ricky wanted to do a beat 'em up. I studied a lot of beat 'em ups on MAME and whatnot, mostly drawing inspiration from Streets of Rage 3.

Thugjacker: Half (2004) - http://www.thugjacker.com

Then I did a game about a tank shooting flowers that make people happy...

LUV Tank (2007) - http://www.luvtank.com

I did a quick game to act as an intro to a larger game...

Sammy Samurai: Runner (2008) - http://www.sammysamurai.com

Now I'm working on a game about a cop catching donuts?

Working on a DevLog for Donut Get! And that's about it!

ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amigas XXXX, damn I’m old…

Since the early days, I have been into games. Making games has always been my passion just like many others on this site and I got into a few projects for some companies in the past.

You can call it some sort of an obsession to try to get things better, which stopped me for way too long from releasing anything. This site makes me realize that it is ok to show what I have been working on although it’s not complete or most special and also that it is very important to get any feedback.

Although I made some tools to support myself while developing games, it has been quite frustrating to put so much energy and time without much result. I hope that I can develop my game better with this community’s feedback, which will give me a lot of energy to keep believing in what I do, regardless of odds I have around my surrounding where if I say my profession is making games, people would say, “What? You’d better find a real job.”

To me, making games is most real and my dream. Certainly I realize that I need to find people who have passion and interest similar to mine, so I can get better understanding and support.  With the help of online game community, I hope to connect to people around the world who share my passion.

Well, back to my silly side.

When I started my latest project, it was like this pathetic cat I found from under a car at the parking lot.

Now cat is the most confident member of our team.
Our team, my partner and I, wish to be like her one day.  Smiley

I'm Andrew.  I'm a professional programmer for a game company by day, and I develop my own games (that my company would never make) by night.

My first computer was the Trash-80, some time around 6~8 years old.  We couldn't afford commercial software (not to mention that all of the "computer" stores had software sections that were literally sandwich bags stuffed with floppies, with hand-typed instruction inserts), so I copied out of magazines and generally had to kludge the programs to work on my more limited computer.  Also, POKEing random values into random locations.  Fun.

Greetings...

I'll let you call me Modesty. That's what I usually go by online in any case.
I'm currently an indie developer based in Austin Texas  Hand Metal Left (Go longhorns) But I originally hail from the great mitt of Michigan.
My studio, Corvidology is 2 people big. I do the pretty pictures, the marketing, and the designing. (So I pretty much do all the work...except programing...and server maintenance.)

My intro to gaming was Duck Hunt and Mario Brothers, and many years at the arcades playing Ninja Turtles and so on. Then it was mostly handhelds like Sega Gamegear and the Brick.
The first console we got as a family was N64, then I fell out of gaming for several years. (Female curse I'm afraid. High School is cruel.) I hid on the PC in those years on MUDs. (Yeah...text-based gaming is awesome!)

My game tastes range pretty wide. Current Top Faves are:
The Phoenix Wright Series
Dragon Age
Harvest Moon 2 Towns
Uncharted 2
Portal 2
Red Dead Redemption
Twilight Princess

By Day I appear like this:

But by night...

I currently have ONE GAME on iOS called Hubbub.
PLUG: Check it out on my site at http://www.corvidology.com (It's a free game...mostly.)
It looks something like this:

I'm from the Gang garrison community

Hello.

I came here from the Gang Garrison community which as some of you may know was made during the bootleg demake contest somewhere in september-october 2008.
I decided to come to TIGsource to see what it's like, I haven't really got much to contribute, I do a little bit of programming and some art, I mainly do icons for games which you can see in the dA link in my sig.

Edit: Just realised my intro is really short compared to everyone else's, oh well.

Hi

I'm a software developer from Estonia with high interest in indie games.
These days I'm most interested in sandbox games like Minecraft and Terraria - in fact, I first heard about TIGSource via Minecraft.
In earlier years, I was a big fan of the Space Quest series.

I got into game development as a kid on the TI-99/4a home computer. Man, BASIC on that thing was slow! But it got me started in game programming. I picked up the C language around age 15 and started programming on the Mac. Years later I started maintaining an animation library called SpriteWorld (for the Mac) and doing games with it.

My first released game was Midnight Mansion, released in 2005. It was fairly successful. I went on to do Insectoid using Torque Game Builder, and then Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills.

This last year, I updated Midnight Mansion to use high-definition graphics, an all-new game engine that uses OpenGL and is cross-platform, and runs natively on Lion, Apple's latest MacOS. It now runs on Windows.

At the moment I'm still trying to make ends meet. Back in 2005, you merely had to upload your game to sites like Download.com, MacUpdate.com, and VersionTracker.com to get thousands of downloads throughout the year. For any decent game, this would translate into lots of sales. Not any more, however. Nowadays, I get maybe 2-7 downloads a week from sites like Download.com. As such, sales are really bad. I haven't yet figured out how to survive in this modern market. I'm guessing I have to get on portals like Steam or GameHouse.

It's great to be here. My name is Ethan Ben, I'm Chinese, but my English is good. Cheesy I come from a China-based Indie studio, I love playing games, especially ARPGs and MMORPGs. I start playing games when I knew what a game is,and to some extent, I'm addictive to games. So driven by a dream and passion, I joined an Indie comprising many gamers and doers. So exciting that our debut browser MMOPRG under the name City of Steam will start Alpha test early next year. Our office:

It's a pity, I was not there that day, haha Tongue

I don't really know if there's a specific place for posting introductions for new members (doesn't seem to be), so I thought I'd say hello to everyone here.

Some information about me... I'm 36 years old, been playing games and playfully programming since I was 6 (yep, 30 years... I feel old).  I've been married for over 11 years to a gamer girl whom I met online, and we are raising a 10-year-old gamer/book geek of a daughter.

I happened across this site when I was googling sprite sheets.  I used to do some really awesome pixel art back in the day, but now I just don't have time to do it and I want to start programming games again.  I'd like to meet some artists and musicians, as well as other programmers.  My desire is to start a game company of my own one day, even at my ripe old age.

I looked through some of the mockup and idea threads, and boy do I wish I still had my old games, but they've been lost to the ravages of time and computer viruses.

I've been goofing around with SDL and VC++ 10 for a while now, making some simplistic stuff, and now I'm bitten with the game-maker bug again.  I'd love to make some games that my daughter could enjoy and be proud of.  So, it's a new mission of mine.

Anyway, I didn't intend to write a novel, but I wanted to get to know people here.  So -- hello all!  I look forward to getting involved in conversation.

EDIT: Oh, by the by, some of my favorite all-time games include Ultimas 4 + 7pt2, Legacy of the Wizard and Master Blaster for the NES, Mortal Kombat II, Rygar (original and remake) and the entire Legend of Zelda series.  I beat normal Skyward Sword in four days (not 96 hours total played, I mean 4 days from release) and heroic 8 days later.  I also currently play World of Warcraft with my wife, horde side on Area 52.  Just a taste of what I like there.  Smiley

My names Matt, I'm too young for my own good and I've always took a liking to something, had an idea, but never got through with it. (I miss you, Pixel Cereal never-to-be)
I am ever-developing and a 'development' for me was stop playing indie. I hardly do now, seeming the smaller side of indie has been hit hard (*ahem* GameJolt), which took to my liking. I just wanted to see what TIGSource was about while joining, and now playing some other good games that I've never heard of before.
