hello everyone! my name is señor barborito. I'm a graphics programmer who's gotten very tired of all the nitty-gritty details in day-to-day programming. To be honest I just don't enjoy programming very much anymore, or at least I don't enjoy the programming where you have to get down to the excrutiating details. i've gone through assembly to c++, from software rasterizers to directX. I've had some fun but now I think life is too short for that shit. I do enjoy the results I get from programming though, so I thought I should get into some gameplay programming, which seems a lot more interesting to me these days. I wish I could draw some graphics or create some music but I think that's beyond my current abilities. maybe I'll try some pixel art at some point, seems like fun. Anyway so I've been using unity for a couple projects, and found it quite enjoyable and easy to use. It takes most of the pain out of programming, so it suits my needs well. Game-wise, I'm old enough to own an atari 2600, spectrum, amiga, etc. which I played as a child. However, the epitome of gaming in my opinion is the SNES though. The last game I really got into was super meat boy. For now, I'm making a quirky little prototype in my spare time. I'm not sure where it's heading exactly but it's got a pretty cool grappling hook and I'm drawing inspiration from nihogg and smash brothers. we'll see how it goes. There's a video capture of the prototype here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9Ri6cepSsAthese days I'm adding network play, so I'll put something up when I get that working. I've also got a twitter account: https://twitter.com/#!/senorbarboritogood luck everyone!!

Hi all, my name is Ben Tibbetts; I'm actually a piano teacher and composer/arranger but I love games, particularly 2D. I first "got into" games when I inherited an SNES from my grandfather and played Zelda: A Link To The Past, Super Mario World, and a bunch of other classics. I'm fond of RPG's and games which make me cry. My favorite games right now are probably Terraria, vvvvvv, Seiklus, and Passage. I've been making games in GameMaker as a hobby since 2003. These days for whatever reason I'm finding I actually prefer making games to playing them. edit: I can't believe I introduced myself without mentioning my website. I'm a terrible networker. My website is www.bentibbetts.net and I'm on Twitter at http://twitter.com/bentibbetts

Hi all I'm pretty sure I've done one of these a while back but here's an updated one! I'm John, co-founder of wallFour, a live events company that uses video game design and technology. Our current work is our Laser Cinema system which allows 100 players to interact with a large screen projection. In the past I've worked was a programmer at Codemasters, ran the indie developer WeAreColin with games on iOS and XBLiG and I also created the BSc Computer Games Programming degree at the University of Derby 7 years ago. For a long time this was the premier course in the country - in terms of our very high placement success in industry. Anyway that's behind me now - I'm back to my first love developing games in an indie setting. Something I used to do back on the Spectrum, BBC and Amiga - so you can probably guess my age! More info about wallFour at wallFour.co.ukCheers John

Hey all, I'm a Canadian indie developer. I mainly code in ActionScript but always open to experiment with new things. In the past year I've gone from being a total code/dev noob to actually releasing a complete game. I love 2D indie games and tower defense games. I also have a few guilty pleasures in non-indie games , though these days I'm focused more on making games then playing them.

Hello, I'm Zach and video game development has been my hobby since I discovered Game Maker in 3rd grade 10 years ago. It used to be my passion until I became discouraged. This was due to my consistent and tragic lack of motivation to finish projects.
I recently ran a search and found excellent tips for motivation. Most of them I learned myself, like making your game iterable, but one was profound for me. That is You are never going to finish your game, you're only going to abandon it. ( =
I learned most of the basics of C++ and want to move into that, but haven't even started a project. I'm wondering if anyone could mentor me through the process. I absolutely adore the feeling of multiplayer in games so the first application I want to write is a chat program. I want to learn everything I can about networking while I finally delve into C++.

Hi guys! My name is Kristoffer, and I'm an indie developer from Norway. Some friends and I started a company straight out of school, but we had to throw in the towel about 1.5 years ago. Since then I've been doing web development, but I recently got a "second wind" when I won a game design competition. During this competition, which lasted for about a week, I created a prototype for a game which is tentatively called Pace Yourself, and I plan on finishing what I started Throughout my gaming years I've played a lot of games, but I find myself being drawn to games with strong storytelling. To me, this used to mean stuff like Square RPGs, but now games like Shadow of the Colossus, Limbo and Portal have taken over that place in my mind. Right now I'm working in HTML5 with canvas using ImpactJS, a very cool game engine for the web. I enjoy doing graphics, although I never quite get it right. I don't particularly enjoy programming, but I appreciate the fact that it is necessary to try out my ideas. I love game design and I also believe it is the hardest thing of the three to get right. I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys!

Hello Tiggers! Been a lurker here for quite a while, and I thought it was past time that I took active part in this community. My name is Maurizio and I am an experienced game programmer and wannabe designer. I have been in the game industry as an employee for the past six years and have made the Big Indie Jump(tm) about a month ago. I have a few ideas on the works and want to see where can they lead me. You'll see me hanging mostly in the feedback and devlogs forums, though I browse the rest from time to time. If you care enough, you can find all the relevant info about myself in my site/blog linked here:

Hello. I guess I'm a manbaby? Haha. I'm also trying to manage a day job and trying to make games, something I'm sure many people are accustom to. I usually talk about things here: http://www.shawn.origaminc.com/blog/That's all I have for now!

Now that I've lurked here for almost a year, maybe it's time I wrote in this thread? So how I got into games... well, we just had NES, PS1, and when my friends grew up from "active gaming" I just couldn't stop. I was the last one from my family to get into computers, but when I did, I got interested in programming. When I found out I could make a game of my own my head exploded from excitement, lol. First I made them with Game Maker, but now I've switched to C++. My current focus is on Cold Wave, and it's so big it doesn't really give any space for little side projects. I'm currently unemployed (having just completed the military service every Finnish man has to do), but I plan on going to study actual game developing. If I get lucky it's this summer already! You could say my dream is getting employed in game industry. I also like anime and manga. Ah, and my favorite games! Infinite Space has a special place in my heart, though I played it only two years ago. The game was just what I've wanted to play: interesting and fresh gameplay with incredibly epic story and excellent soundtrack. Others are Inazuma Eleven, The World Ends With You, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Metal Gear Solid, Ape Escape and Portal. I guess that's about it...

Hello there, I'm Exorph, game programmer and wannabe designer from Sweden. I'm currently doing a gameplay programming internship at a somewhat famous indie studio in Denmark as the final part of my education. And in my spare time I'm currently working on that mandatory over-ambitious RPG that I hear all game developer set out to do before they realize how unrealistic it is. The progress is slow, but I'm still having fun with it after six months of development. And I'm hoping to show iterations of the game here to get some feedback. I got introduced to games by my dad, and my first gaming memory is that of running into the first goomba in SMB over and over again at the age of four-or-so. Since then, games have more or less been the center of my life, but up until recently I was only a consumer. I had ambitions to become an actor, but that didn't pan out due to health reasons, so when I got a flier in the mail from a school called The Game Assembly, I decided to send in an application. I love games that try to be different, even if they fail. I can't get through a full length game if there's no narrative. On the other hand, I'll play through terrible games if they have a well-written story. I see a value both in lengthy cut-scenes and in telling a story through gameplay. Favorite games include (from the top of my head) Ico, the Uncharted series, The Path, MGS3, Silent Hill 2, Braid, Final Fantasy IX and Limbo.

Hello everyone, my name is Vegard and I'm a programmer. I am pretty new to game development, and I only got into "real" programming about a year and a half ago. Before that it was only simple php scripting and web stuff. I've only worked with Java so far, and it has really grown on me. It's the language my school has landed on, so it wasn't much of a choise really. I'm finishing my bachelor's degree in computer science in the spring of 2013, and I'm hoping for a job where I can create something cool with what I've learned. You all have to forgive me if my english is a bit off, I'm norwegian after all. So far I've only made some basic stuff, like snake and tetris clones, but I'm working with my brother (who I've recently introduced to programming (he's really more of an artist)) on a bigger project. We're trying to make a kind of framework for a game creator thingy - yeah that came out right. Anyhow, it's called Personal Adventure, and the idea is that people can make their own adventure games, with stories, characters etc. In the end though, it might just be more of a learning experience than a real contribution to the community. I might post some screen shots in the developer forum for you all to see, if you'd like. I've read some of the posts in the developer section, and it's clear that there is some real talent around. Maybe some day I could join some of you guys on a project. I would love to see how more experienced programmers work. My early experiences with games was back in the time of MS-DOS and 386 computers. I remember playing games like Ally Cat, Sokoban, Commander Keen, Ducktales, One Must Fall and many others. I would like to make games in that old style, where gameplay trumps graphics, but at the same time I'm very impressed with what people can do in 3d. It's just that I know nothing about it, so I feel I can't appreciate the work in the same way. Maybe that sounds stupid, I don't know. Anyway, it's great to be a member here. I'm looking forward to sharing my projects with you all and of course to get to see what everyone else is coming up with. Thanks.

Hi! My name is Mattias Carlström and I'm from Sweden. Like most others here I've been dreaming about making a game since I first started playing them. I started playing games on C64 and NES. In fact I had a couple of nintendo game & watch before that so I guess games have been in my blood since I was born :-). I'm a programmer and designer. I've been running my own business the last 10 years as a web developer. 2 years ago me and a friend and long time business partner started a game project. For the last two years that has been my focus. We like strategy game and we are JavaScript / PHP programmers so it was a natural choice to make a turn based strategy game. Showing you a screen shot here: My other big interest is skiing. I want to spend as much time as possible skiing. In fact most adventure sports that takes you to some beautiful nature where you get a bit of adrenaline are my cup of tea :-). I also do indoor climbing. But for the time being this game project is what I spend my time on. I's great to be a member here, seems like a very active indie game community.
