Hey All! I'm Etienne and I've been a designer for 5 years now, and 3 years professionally in a (too) huge company. I'm making some games as side-projects in Unity with friends and alone, and dream of leaving this huge company I'm working for in the future to make my own games. I've been an unregistered lurker on these boards for a little while now, and I just signed up! So I look forward to participating in the threads more. This is how I look when I'm walking with friends at GDC and they're taking a pic of me from behind. The white spot in my hair is totally natural. I don't bleach that shit. It's not the 1990s or anything.

Oh, hi, everybody. My name is Tyler Martin. I'm 34 and I'm a developer. I'd like to introduce myself. I'm a life-long gamer. I inherited my first console from my uncle when I was six: the ubiquitous Atari 2600. In the almost 30 years since, I've kept both console and computer gaming as a major part of my life. When I was 10 or 11 or so my natural interest in the blippity-bloops lead me to an interest in computers, which were becoming a more frequent home appliance in the late 80s. I started learning how to program and fiddling around with computers and that eventually led me to a career as a web programmer, even though my BA is in Visual Arts. I've worked mostly in advertising for the last 12 years or so, doing mostly web stuff, both front and back-end, and most recently, almost exclusively: iOS. For the past couple of years in-between paying clients, I've been putting time into my first game, which was recently released in the iOS App Store. (Announcement on that coming right after my intro.) I realize that I'm kind of coming out of nowhere just to try and get some eyes on my game. But it's not a cynical ploy. I made a game entirely by myself (doesn't get any more indie than that), and I'd love to hear what indie game communities like this one think about it, even though I'm something of a stranger. Ok. Thanks. Here's my portfolio in case anyone is curious about the work I've done, mostly for ad agencies: http://tylerjaymartin.comOh, and here's a picture of my cat. His name is Harvey.

Hi Everyone! My name is DJ DeWitt; I'm 21 years old, an undergraduate at Northwestern University, an ex Physics major who is now utterly focused on making all of the games...go big or go home? So, backstory: I've been making games for a really long time now, I think I hopped onto Game Maker around version 2 and have been using it extensively ever sense. Now you're thinking, where are all the awesome games you've built over the years then? Well, after completing a single game and submitting it to the Game Maker Showcase (Rest in Peace) I've been trying to make the next Cave Story for the last, god, 10 years of my life? More? It's ridiculous really, someday I'll just put literally hundreds of those half-complete game maker files up on my site to see if anyone can use anything from them. Anyway, I'm clearly a grade-A example of "finish your shit"-itis that plagues creative people/indie game designers. THINGS ARE CHANGING THOUGH: As I've come to accept that video games should no longer remain a hobby in my life and should take its rightful place as my central focus, I've started to get a better sense of all the things that's changed since my early Game Maker days. Vlambeer's "bringing arcade back" mentality and a lot of Adam Saltsman's thoughts have given me a new perspective on game design; I need to stop trying to make the next Cave Story and focus on producing smaller stuff that I can finish, namely things like arcade games. Thus...ROBOSHAFT. I hope you guys like it when we release it, and if you don't please rip it apart so I can improve! You can check out my stuff at djdewitt.com, but right now I'm redesigning the site so it's just got a half complete pixely background and a bunch of way-too-wordy ambiguous ideas about interactive entertainment; There will eventually be access to my games and blog posts ranging from technical aspects of game design to more heady ideas on what interactive entertianment is, what it does, why it's the medium of the 21st century and all that jazz. You can keep updated on my primary focus right now, a little game called ROBOSHAFT, at roboshaft.com...It's an action arcade platformer that I'm working on with the crazy talented pixel artist Jake Wiesen , who happens to be my best friend forever and is the guy I've been trying to make Cave Story with for the past decade about. Seriously, check his shit out if you don't already recognize the name; I like to brag for him that he's one of the best and he's too humble to ever say it so I'll say it for him because he's an ultra inspiring and talented dude! Anyway, that's about enough for me. I'm pretty sure the only face I recognize here from my GMS days is ChevyRay, but you can rest assured that I have thoroughly stalked so many of you through twitter and am super excited about becoming more involved in the indie games community and want to be all of your friends. <3 Caked in Love, DJ DeWitt PS: Some fun facts, Game Maker Showcase (which no longer exists) was the first site dedicated to games made in Game Maker, but it was ultimately unable to compete with GMC and GMG and eventually imploded after many years of awesomeness. That's where I was most active in my indie game old days, as I was a moderator and eventually administrator there, and that's where I met most of my indie games friends. So if you remember it, or were from there, I MISS YOU GUYS! I'm pretty sure the only name I still recognize from back then is ChevyRay (Harry RPG <3) but if there are others out there I'm glad you survived the implosion!

Hello, I'm a 23-year-old guy from Hungary, and I'm interested in IT in general. I've been learning programming in the last ~8 years and made some open-source programs, and of course I'm also interested in game development. I work as a Unix sysadmin at a multinational company, it's my first job, I have it since the end of 2010. My active non-game project is MgSMTP, which is a primitive mail server for Windows; and my active game project is MegaFillers Flash, which is a filler game. To tell the truth, I came here to look for collaboration for the latter, though I'll probably stay because I find this forum quite interesting. For example, I found your threads about FlashGameLicense pretty much useful, since I'm going to try to sell my Flash game there. I like several genres of games. My top favourite FPS games are Half-Life (all games of the franchise), Portal, Deus Ex and System Shock 2. As for non-FPS games, I like Plants vs Zombies, Laura Shigihara's Melolune (which is still in the making); and my most favourite Flash games I ever played are Absorption and Killbot (which is not released yet AFAIK). I'm also registered on Laura Shigihara's forum as " Unnamed" (in case someone recognizes me), and in fact, Laura suggested me to join this forum. Since ultramegatronic has posted a picture of his cat, I also post one about mine, since I'm a big cat-lover too. His name is Huncutka, which means "little waggish".

Hi everyone, my name is Olive currently studying computer science trying to be a programmer I'm probably pretty new to gaming in comparison to many of you here, I didn't became a gamer until I was 14 or 15, but getting into the game development industry has been one of my biggest dreams since the day I've chosen comp sci as my major ^^ me and some other friends in university made a small game written in pure java from scratch, we don't even know how to play the game ourselves lol, but the process of making a game is really fun so I hope I can learn more through this forum and get better at making games. I'm also working on a 2D side scrolling platformer for IOS and trying to learn to use cocos2d and box2d besides being a programmer I'm also a musician-wannabe, I took piano lessons but didn't had much training on music theory, but I did the music for our first game and I hope to do more in the future Favourite games: Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dynasty warriors, Tekken, Plants vs. Zombies I don't play FPS because they somehow make me dizzy... i don't know why <_<

Hey everybody, My name is Nick, and while I've been designing games for as long as I can remember, I'm coming to professional game development late in life (at least for this industry). Grew up playing and writing games for the Texas Instruments 99/4A and then later for the earliest PCs, while also being a complete D&D geek. Got my first teeny taste of the possibility of professional work as a teenager, getting a few car designs published in one of Steve Jackson Games' old Car Wars expansions. Majored in Philosophy in college, then got lucky and ended up doing software engineering for one of the early web success stories. That got the entrepreneurial juices flowing, and I spent the next nine years at other startups. Then a friend and I found ourselves discussing an idea for a web-based game that we just couldn't let go of. He left his job to start working on it, another friend joined in, and soon I found myself doing the same. We've been at it for a little over two years now. The game - Conclave- is live and open; I'll make a proper post about it in the right place once I finish putting together our media kit, but here's the quick gist: we all miss sitting around a table playing games with our friends, especially RPGs. But danged if it isn't hard to get everybody together for that sort of thing these days, as we spread out over the globe. MMOs are great, but it's hard to find the time or schedule them into lives full of work, school, family, etc. But the so-called "social" games lack depth and (usually) real multiplayer zest. So we built Conclave: a fantasy RPG that supports multiple players who may or may not be online at the same time. Conclave switches smoothly between synchronous and asynchronous mode, so you can play when and how you want to. That's it! It's great to be here; it's great to be designing games.

Hi everybody! My name is Antony and I'm a 21 year old Computer Science student at Nottingham Trent University (UK). I also work for an Indie Studio called NerfGames doing some programming but at the moment focussing on PR and Marketing. NerfGames was founded so we would be able to work on our own games during our placement years and we've now reached the point were we actually have games ready to get out in the world! Back to me though, I've been an avid gamer for most of my life, it started out with Sonic on the Mega Drive then moving onto the PS1, the addiction was then fed by a father who worked at Sony as a QA lead tester, meaning I regularly got a load of new games to eat up my time! If that wasn't enough, my step-father then gave me his NES and SNES wherein I found the joy and rage inducing Starwing, it was also about this time that I figured out I have anger issues: I received a N64 on my 7th Birthday along with my favourite game of all time, Lylat Wars: Thankfully I've been able to put up a mental wall between the cherished memories of completing that game twice a day and the horrible "Do a barrel roll" meme. I've played and enjoyed games across almost all platforms and genres as I've grown up ranging from the likes of Total Annihilation on PC to Call of Duty 4 on the PS3. I also enjoy watching (not so much playing anymore) Rugby, consuming fairly large amounts of Alcohol. Oh and I really love long sunlight walks on the beach. Cheers for reading!

Hi, I'm Matthew.
I'm from Denver, Colorado, and now I live in Los Angeles, CA.
I'm currently working on an indie game, and have been making games since I was 13 years old in game maker, and now I've grown into programming my own games. On the side I'm the senior web developer for SG , and have been making websites since I was about nine years old back when I used to play Rollercoaster Tycoon, DF:BHD, and Counter Strike.
I got into making games because I wanted to create a playable experience of my imagination.
:D

Hello all!
My name is Martijn Thorig, and I run Small Gaming and I am the only employ when I am not working for my employer. At the moment I am working on a puzzle game for the iOS and released two other games for the iOS. I really enjoy working on games. I have been making small games in ActionScript 3 for years now, but I never released one, except for the attempts on the iOS. Now I make tools for my games in ActionScript and made a small 3d engine on iOS which is used by my Puzzle Game. Hopefully I will be able to make the engine fully multi platform.
My game addiction started when I was 4 years old and have been playing games ever since. I play all kinds of games. Journey is the last game I finished.
