My name is Ming Iu, and I'm a programmer in Toronto, Canada. I've been making toy little browser games as a hobby for the past few years ( http://www.user00.com/my2iu/games/) Although I avidly follow gaming news, I'm actually more of a casual gamer. I tend to like my games eccentric and bite-sized.

@Ico I'll look out for you next time I'm going by Trent University on the tram... you shouldn't be too hard to spot. They have a beach on the Old Market Square during summer....

MY CAREER IN GAMES (AND WHY I WENT INDIE) As a kid, I loved actualizing my ideas into art, projects and inventions, always creating something from my imagination. I grew up playing games on Apple ][, Commodore 64, Atari 2600, then Sega Master System and NES. In 1996 My desire to contribute to the art form of video games led me to art school. In 1999 I was recruited by Electronic Arts’ EA Academy program as an artist while studying computer animation and digital design spending two summers interning at the Redwood Shores HQ studio and subsequently (upon graduation) accepted an offer for a regular position. EA was my reluctant launchpad into a career in games but within a few years I worked to migrate from game art to game design. At EA I developed during three generations of game consoles as well as PC, contributing to several "AAA" titles including “007 James bond: Everything or Nothing,” “The Sims 2” and “Godfather: The Game.” After five years with Electronic Arts and Maxis, I decided it was time to experience other projects, working on titles such as: “Tomb Raider: Legend“ for Eidos’ Crystal Dynamics studio on Xbox, PS2 and Xbox 360 "LAIR" for Factor 5 on the PS3 “Space Movers: The Bloom Initiative” a FaceBook game about replenishing the earth’s natural resources (the game was designed so that playing it contributed money to the Arbor Day Foundation.) After a decade-long career in games and a series of promotions and defections, I left the mainstream because, well, I was no longer making games, I was managing development teams that were making games. My goal with Fresh Aces is to craft games myself; ones that evolve the artform beyond the tried and true mechanics, themes and conventions of the mainstream publishers, focusing on unique gameplay and interfaces. Thanks for having me.

Well I guess I missed that I'm suppose to introduce myself before posting anything else and my first post was an announcement for my game that just got approved by Apple. My apologies for not following "social protocol/etiquette". Anyway, my handle is Tyraziel, it's the combination of Tyr and Raziel and I've been using it ever since college when I wanted to make a new unique type name. I like playing board games, my collection is quite extensive but not as extensive as some of the others I've seen on boardgamegeek.com. I've wanted to become a game developer ever since I played the Intellivision before I was in kindergarden, and I finally made my dream a reality this past week - http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=25101.0 Oh... I also like hiking and have been to the summit of Mt. Washington and the back country of Algonquin with a back pack and a canoe. I'm a programmer by trade, so my graphical art skills are lacking. Feel free to either PM me here, on IRC or post some comments / feedback on my first game released! Cheers, ~~Tyraziel

Hello TIGSource Community! Wow, This Introduce Yourself thread is EPIC! Anyway I work at a University in the UK teaching various aspects of computer science. I wish I had more time to engage in my own pet projects but I'm hoping that reading things here and engaging with the community will help inspire me and help me to find the time to develop something polished enough to release and call my own, rather than the stream of tutorials and tech demos that I don't yet deem worthy of a wider audience. So, my background: Well growing up I was a big nintendo fan, playing on the NES, SNES and Gameboy. I also flirted with the Megadrive, bought my first PC about 20 years ago and enjoyed the likes of Alone in the Dark, the XWing and Tie Fighter games and the timeless Day of the Tentacle. I then moved on to the PS1, PS2, XBox and XBox 360. I didn't really do much programming and don't really remember being aware of anything beyond VB batch scripts until I went to Uni to study Physics. There I was introduced to Fortran and Turbo Pascal. I did a little HTML and Javascript after uni, and then returned to academia and learnt C++. Since then I've branched out a little more into C# and a little Python, but I still programme as often as is appropriate in C++. As I said I'd like to find more time to create games and indeed play more games in between my work and my home life. In fact if it doesn't already exist I propose a forum bucket list. My #1 aim, which the vast majority of you will have already accomplished would be to publish my own game. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this and be gentle, it's my first time

Hello, My name is Eric Wuss , I'm relatively new the the indie games scene. I run a very small indie games studio, called Red Sun Games, out here in beautiful Japan. If you want to check it out take a look here http://redsungames.blogspot.jp/ I was a participant in the 2012 IGF with my first game concept, called Where Are You? If you want to see the rough Alpha demo it's available on my website. The game itself took me just under 7 weeks to build... Anyway, where are my manners, I should continue with my intro. So I am a 27 year old High School teacher, who has been devoting his time to his family (wife and two kiddies) and game making. Been learning about game design since early last year. I must also note, that I have been a gamer since the age of 7, when I was given a Gameboy and a Super Nintendo for Christmas. My very first, Computer gaming experience started on our families Commodore64, god I miss Amnesia and Bionic Commando. Now between family, developing games and teaching, it's become a tug of war over who gets more time. It truly is the ultimate question, for gamers/devs with a family and another jobs. How do you find a balance between Work, Family and Games/Dev? If you like what you see on my website let me know here or my e-mail: [email protected] I am always happy to hear others opinions of the game, be it good or bad. Thanks for your time.

Hi, Marc, nice to see another game industry vet in here (I'm sure there are plenty more, I'm just not about to read through all 350 pages of this thread to find them! ) Anyhow, I'm Mike. I've been in the games industry for 21+ years. When I got started in the industry, screen resolution was 512x384, CDRoms were all 1-speed, and pixel-sprites were the way to do animation. A lot's changed since then, but a couple of years ago, a friend from the GameArtisans.org forums and I started talking about loving those old sprite games, about how the screen resolution of the iPhone was similar to the monitors back then, how much I missed doing sprite animation, etcetera... So we decided to make an old-school sprite game together for iOS. After a false start on another game idea, we settled on our current project, MageMaze, a turn-based tactical puzzle adventure game. Two years later, we're still working on it and it's come pretty far. There's a light at the end of the tunnel, and we hope to be done this summer. I've done just about every piece of art in the game, which has been a blast! While I still work in the games industry, I now do a lot more management than hands on work, so it's fun to get to work on the actual assets again. And to make something that's for myself, completely unrestricted by market concerns or business needs. Working on the game has been a challenge. We've had our busy periods and our slumps. The two of us live 8 time-zones apart so communication is always a challenge. But in the end, we're pretty proud of what we've accomplished so far, and it's a blast to do something indie, even if it is limited to my spare time. (and practically ALL of my spare time! )

Awesome Michael, the graphics look stunning, you are an incredibly talented artist. I could definitely learn some tricks from you. BTW I lived in Emeryville from 2005-2009 we probably bumped into each other at a pub or two.

Ah, that's funny Marc. Yep, I've been living in the East Bay now for over 15 years. And if we didn't actually meet, I'm sure we have a ton of colleagues in common, as I know a bunch of folks who have worked or work at Factor5, EA, Maxis, etc. My good friend Matt Gaston who you must have worked with on TR:L is still at Crystal working on various Lara Croft titles.
Anyhow, thanks for the kind words. St. Chicken looks really interesting - definitely accurate in your description of "unique and quirky" - Just the whole concept made me laugh. Gameplay-wise it seems like an interesting blend of side-scroller and Pikmin, with your ability to call the guppies all back towards you. Anyhow, good luck with it and hope it does well for you!

Hello, I was directed to this thread by Noyb. I'm Nick, and I've recently learned how to do some programming (Python, I guess) but before that me and my friends just made games using engines like RPGMaker2k and Game Maker. Most of them were 'joke games' (just things that don't have any entertainment value except for a small twist or something similar). Sorry that this is a relatively small introduction thing, I just don't really know what to say.

Hi. My name is Eigen, and I'm a mobile-software developer by day and hobbyist gamedev by night. I live in Estonia. I've been interested in computers and games since I was a kid and my dad got us a green-monitored PC XT, on which I could play Prince of Persia. I was hooked immediately. Years later, that interest developed into a wish to learn how to program and write my own games. I haven't completed much projects, because for years, I took on projects too great in scope and achieved nothing but little knowledge how things work. Now I know better and work on smaller games. Still, even now games take quite a long time to complete, because doing all the programming, graphics and music is rather time-consuming. Below are a few screenshots from games I've completed. Slide Them BoxesMy latest game which I'm really happy about. You can get more information about it and download it free for Windows or Mac HERE A short YouTube video can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqYyumuz-0wPrincess And The Banjo More information on all of my doings is available hereI'm hoping for a nice stay here edit: As it turns out, I'm also a manbaby. Take care, Eigen

Hi everyone, This is my first post in this amazing forum, but I have stayed here for many time as a guest, testing games and reading feedbacks. I have learned a lot of things with all of you, so thanks for this. My name is Oscar and I'm from Barcelona (Spain) I am a 3D Artist working in diferent companies of videogames, movies, architecture, design for about 10 years but as the most of here there are a game designer inside me. I don´t remember when i started to love videogames, maybe with an Atari 2600 or with an arcade machine in a bar playing Galaga, PacMan or Phoenix, who cares. The important now it´s my interest for create new games and play games of other designers wich have had good ideas. My first attempt to make a videogame was in a Commodore 64, was a text adventure with awfull pictures coded with Basic. After this i think i tried to do levels and Mods for others games, and finally I'm making a game in Flash. I will show you very soon (I'm very exited for to know what you think). Here some screenshots of my previous works. You can visit my blog If you are interested to know more about me and my works. http://josich.blogspot.com.es/Finally to say I'm happy to be, at the end, another member of TIG. Read you soon. J.

Hello everybody, my name is Ben Warren but online I tend to be referred to as Enker (after drawing a Mega Man fancomic based around the character for a few years called 'Enker's Tales'). I am a fully qualified and working Graphic Designer and Illustrator with a strong media related background and recently helped to found a UK based company called Cascade Studios - primarily to create an original fantasy radio show called Golden Age. When that show was well recieved we developed a number of spin off media, including a game - which has given me the bug! I am now hooked on the ever amazing indie scene and have a particular passion for rpgs. Hello to you all, and I look forward to bopping around the forums here at TIGSource!
