We're working on a game that takes place in hell where you play as sinfully cute animals. They're in hell because they're evil. Its cartoon violence and you'll experience getting your hero animal burnt, sawed, decapitated, etc. Not to mention the non-interactive things like our level map will have some gruesome scenes of the animals in torture devices.

Anyone have experience with this?

"Apps that present excessively objectionable or crude content will be rejected"

"Apps that are primarily designed to upset or disgust users will be rejected"

Those last 2 are rather subjective as to where the line is drawn. Its cartoon violence but if there's a rabbit hanging in a noose or in other violent torture devices is that going to be too much?

Further research from comments:
"The problem with yours was that it could easily be perceived as sadistic (as there's no threat to the player), so it's just "unnecessary".

it CANNOT be sadistic in nature. There has to be a perceived threat to the player.

uhhh

Also we'll have to consider that our icon and screenshots can't be violent as they can be seen by all. 3.6 – Apps with App icons and screenshots that do not adhere to the 4+ age rating will be rejected

No, I'm not. Those rabbits were very very bad - and the game is about saving them. They tried to kill the Yukon Warrior.

I think the lack of responses to this thread comes from the fact you didn't in fact ask a good question. Anyway the solution is simple: a noose is still a noose even when it's cartoony. Just imagine you're in an American court. I'd draw a scared bear or something.

But you know what this is kinda tricking the parents. Sometimes all they see is the icon (because they don't give a s). Maybe it's a mistake that the icons can't be sadistic.
