I'm quite a bit fan of Strugatsky, and I want to say it's really nice list. I would also like to add "Predatory Things of Century" but have found English title is "The Final Circle of Paradise" (I suspect whole book was translated poorly), and looks like "The Doomed City" has no official English translation.
Yeah, the english translation of the predatory things of the century is... not great. I remember there was a fairly key point in the book that the translator had managed to mistranslate into the direct opposite of what it was in the original. Sad, really, it's a great book in russian. Also, I'm not great at rating things in general, but I'm pretty sure I would put "Doomed City" into my top ten books I've read so far. Its setting is just great.

Finished my last crop: A Confederacy of Dunces and Knut Hamsun's Hunger, so I went picked up some new stuff: Anthony Burgess's Any Old Iron, Dostoyevsky's The Idiot, and Jean Genet's The Miracle of the Rose. All were used copies and only four dollars each, it's awesome having an awesome bookstore to trek to

Almost finished Game of Thrones. How does anyone keep track of all these characters? After Game of Thrones, I'm going to read Seventh Sigma, then The Final Empire, and then maybe attempt Dune again.

Other than that, your brain just gets used to it the farther you go :D Currently reading McMafia by Misha Glenny, and the City Of Glass graphic novel by Karasik and Mazucchelli.

Got my little brother a copy of foundation to read. Found lines of dialog had been edited into the edition I found him where Hari Seldon's recording flat-out tells the people of Trantor that there is a second foundation and that they should be sought out. Massive, plot-killing change. Like Han shooting second.

That doesn't even make any sense. Wasn't the whole point that Seldon never mentioned them? That is the entire point of their existence! Man, forget Han shooting second -- that literally results in the plots of the rest of the books making no sense. What a bizarre choice.

I think I remember that actually! But he doesn't talk anything about what the second foundation is or anything right? So it's not really killing any of the plot. It's mentioned, but remains a mystery and I think it work quite well. I recall I though it was like a second copy of the first foundation, existing only like a backup, or only mentioned so that the first foundation wouldn't have to feel the burden of being "humanities last hope" and all. Wait a second, they always knew about the existance of a second foundation, didn't they? The whole knowledge that it was somewhere, while being a mystery since it never appeared on the radar the same way as the first foundation did felt like such a big part of the books, I just can't belive that has been added on later. How did they ever find out about its existance otherwise?

The Ringworld Engineers by Larry Niven.. When I posted this I had only read a few pages. I then stopped didn't have enough time to finish the book in one sitting. I almost did this today on a ride to Maine and back. Only 10 more pages.

Read Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five in one sitting the other day, now struggling to decide between Gaiman's American Gods or a Kafka collection, so much that I decided to read Camus' The Outsider whilst I choose.
Also preordered Murakami's 1Q84, due out near the end of this month, which conveniently is right in the middle of one of my assignments.

Do you feel that one sitting is always... better? than reading something over a long period of time?

I would say so, it's experiencing the entire story as intended, but it depends on the reader and the book I suppose, sometimes life just gets in the way. I don't do it as often as I would like, but I had the time (I had to leave for University in the morning and rather than sleep I stayed awake.) Usually I read a few chapters of a book a night. I find that if I can't finish something in about 2 weeks, I'll have to start again because I've most likely forgotten some details of the story that may be important later. There are some books however that may benefit from reading it in stages, I would say reading something like Naked Lunch is better suited to a chapter a night or so, because that's just the nature of the novel. I also don't have a bookmark.
