If you read 1984, also read Huxley. It's a more, hmm, accurate description of modern society.

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut

Two great books. I haven't read any Vonnegut for awhile. I have been meaning to finish Player Piano someday...

Finished reading Catcher in the Rye recently, was an amazing, touching little read. Now I'm on some dark Nancy Huston book.

I read catcher in the rye a few years back. It was a fine book, didn't really touch me on a personal level and felt rather overrated.

I keep meaning to re-read 1984, but I can't bring myself to do it. It's just so overwhelmingly claustrophobic and depressing. Tired One of my favorite books tho.

You mean brave new world?
That guy wrote that in the 20s. Pretty crazy ahead of his time. Though last time I checked people weren't all raised in incubation tubes and sterilized in modern society quite yet.

I heard somewhere that Tim Burton is directing the new 1984 movie. Going to be interesting to see where he goes with it, and how he fucks it up adding his trademark whimsy and flair to the generally dark story.

I think its one of those books you gotta read at a certain point in your life.

Legends from the End of Time by Michael Moorcock. I've heard so much about him but this is the first of his stuff I've actually read. It's just as awesome as I expected.

Currently reading: World War Z by Max Brooks.
I'm not a huge fiction reader so World War Z writing style fits me.

Next on the list:
- Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott (about fiction writing, but also useful for game design etc.)
- a book on Civil War

I just finished reading "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan, and I am about 1/3-1/2 of the way through "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan as well.

Cryptonomicon or Snow Crash are next on the list I do believe.

I recently finished Gibson's "Burning Chrome" and Hurbert's "Dune Messiah" and "Children of Dune", and now I'm reading "Nightfall" by Asimov and Silverberg.

I've finally found some libraries with books in English that I can checkout, so I've been plowing through a book every week or two the past few months to make up for lost reading time.
