Hm, the game looks very interesting. Try to aim for "make it half as popular as minecraft" - would me more than enough.

minecraft IS a clone of infiniminer, with permission from the inventor, no bad blood either quite the contrary, but it prove that cloning old obscure games and expending on them is a good idea, look at rogue and recent surge of rogue lite

now you know

Infiniminer's basically if you take Minecraft, remove all the twelve year olds, and remove all the pedophiles creeping the twelve year olds.

The creator also is working on a game called Infinifactory right now. It looks pretty cool and the early access for it is already out.

I've followed this saga for a number of years now. Infiniminer probably won't ever attain Minecraft's success for the same reason EverQuest was never as popular as World of Warcraft. Sure everquest came first, but World of Warcraft took the usability and accessibility of the genre to a whole new level.

Minecraft got where it is because the team at Mojang made the game playable and understandable to even the most novice of users and crafted a superb user experience. When you enter minecraft, you get straight into the game. How the game works is so intuitive that most people can grasp how to work it without ever needing to look up how to do things.

Infiniminer, on the other hand, presents players with choices new players won't understand before the game even begins. It may seem small, but this is the kind of entry barrier that discourages and confuses the "casual audience". On top of that, the actual tactile feel of the game doesn't feel nearly as tight as minecraft nor does it provide the feedback that it does.

I'm not saying Infiniminer isn't good, I'm saying it's different . But it does have a long way to go on the refinement front to gain the kind of reach that MineCraft has.
