I've noticed game devs are a pretty multitalented bunch; what skills do you have?
here's mine:
Drawing(mostly figure drawing): excellent! Painting: meh Programming: decent (what I'm focusing on now) Music: been jamming for years but never composed Game Design: I made 3rd place in innovation for a Ludum Dare, so I got that going for me, which is nice

Those are broad category, game designer in fact IMHO has more sub category (interface, control, game specific, etc... that's why I didn't put expert), morso with level design, as it encompass level building, scripting and environment, I have yet to do a full AAA quality level design from scratch, not just level planning.

Sure there are countless parallel aspects to a game. But you have to keep a sharp eye on the fundamental relation between gamedesign and leveldesign. Leveldesign has to implement the gamedesigns intent. For example you cannot think about puzzle-mechanics in isolation without thinking about puzzles(levels). Essentially leveldesign is gamedesign. The artificial separation between those two is simply a tool for big studios to deal with the increased production complexity. But that is dangerous since gamedesign and leveldesign has to be understood as a unity. And the lack of it actually shows in many AAA games, the game-mechanics don't work well with their intent and vice versa.

No need to explain me what level design is please, The part where I'm not as good is environment design (aka art) so it has nothing to do with pure game design.

Indies become multi-talented because we want to finish a game, eventually you learn that nobody is going to help you do that, anything the game is missing will only get done if you do it yourself
