Our game is still in pre-alpha but we want to begin heavily marketing the project.

We were just hoping to get some constructive feedback on if we have missed any features that should be added or if you have any aesthetic pointers? Any suggestions on types of posts would be great too?

I find the tiled ship background distracting.

Overall, I say the blog looks basic and lacks personality. By that, I mean it lacks visual elements people can connect with. Maybe instead of a ship in the header graphic, or in addition to it, you can have some of your pirates?

When the gifs loaded (slow comp, don't ask) it was pretty funny to watch the pirates break dancing.

I really like your gifs, but they loaded super slow for me and I had trouble scrolling down the page. Maybe consider reducing their size? I've used this before and it's pretty handy: http://ezgif.com/optimize

Super slow is an understatement - it's still loading after 3 minutes or so, I can't scroll either, I do have a fast connection.
