Hullo there,

I decided to make a little month-long (I hope) project.

Here's the concept - it's a boxing game! EXCEPT - you can see the boxer's brains above them, and when you get punched your brain takes damage at the front & spins around in your skull.

If you land blows when the damaged bit of the brain is at the front, it'll do more damage, blah blah, stamina bar, blah etc.

Edit: Game's finished!!!

PLAY BRAINBOX HERE V1.72, updated(20/04/2015)

Hey - yeah, there'll be a 2 player mode. The controls are going to be super simple, just a punch button (hold down for more powerful punches) and a block button - so both players can play on one keyboard.

Ooookay - here's what i've got so far:

DOWNLOOOAD

There's no computer player yet, so find a buddy, or pretend you have a split personality.

WASD for player 1, Arrow keys for player 2. Hit R to restart the room.

Coming next!

-Win animation
-Stamina bar (important!)
-Mebbe some more sfx....

Great idea, indeed!

It seems that the download link points to the wrong place, though. I end up downloading a space game.

Very cool concept ! I like how the brains roll and the craniums are always staring at each other hahaha! Are you ok with some suggestions? I'm new to the forums and i think here is not the place for that, is it?

LARRY MERCHANT: As the brain is shaken around inside the aqueous environment of the skull, it collides with sharp, bony ridges on the inner surface of the cranium. Even at sub-concussive velocities, this results microscopically in necrotic and apoptotic events, but even macroscopically in shearing of the brain tissue, resulting in protein aggregates and cellular "debris" accumulating in the brain similar to other tau-proteinopathies such as Alzheimer's disease-

MAX KELLERMAN: And then of course we get to apolipoprotein J, or "clusterin" to you, me, and the folks at home

LARRY MERCHANT: I was getting to that

Exactly.

Updated the link in the first post - 2 player mode is pretty much set up now (complete with randomly generated names) - coming next, a CPU opponent for the 1 player mode.

Fantastic stuff, can really feel the weight behind those punches! Makes my brain hurt a little just looking at it...
Will there be celebrities to fight with? Preferably historical ones like Abraham Lincoln or Joseph Merrick, or maybe that fella who broke the 4 minute mile...

No celebs i'm afraid, but if there were, i'd probably go with characters from TV sitcoms like Norm from Cheers, or the Golden Girls.

Mainly the Golden Girls.

If you think it's going to take a month, expect it to take 3 months IMO.

@TheChaoticGood - man, tell me about it. I'm up to almost 2 months so far, but hopefully I can get it wrapped up in the next few days.

Anyway - link in the first post is updated to v1.4 - the single player mode is pretty much done (aside from the ending & some polish) along with a quick progress screen:

- so give the CPU some knocks and see how it plays...feedback welcome!

New version is up HERE

- now with an ending, plus some extra polish (crowd noises, camera flashes in the bg). Still a little left to do, but almost there...

It's very satisfying to land punches, especially uppercuts Smiley The general gameplay is nice. I kinda wish there was a super "haymaker" smash, that I had to earn somehow. That could help turn the tides when I'm getting my ass handed to me. Which is every time I play. Can't beat the first dude, haha. Gunna try again.

@bithead: Thanks for giving it a go man - I've made a few tweaks in the latest version (updated in the first post) - so it's a little easier, let me know if it helps.

Also - now with MUSIC Smiley
